Human Target is a new series from Fox based on the DC Comic of the same name that follows a bodyguard who protects high-end clients from assassins by impersonating them or by masquerading as someone close to them. Whilst he protects his clients close by his partners work to investigate and find the killer.
No, it isn’t really a sci-fi show but given the pilot stars Fringe’s Mark Valley as the bodyguard Christopher Chance, Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer as his client, Watchmen’s Jackie Earl Harley (aka Rorschach) as his kind-of partner and given that it takes place on a fictional but futuristic speed train, the pilot qualifies for a write up. It’s also been a long while since an action series has entertained me so that’s another good reason to give it some attention.
First, if you haven’t seen the trailer yet watch it now:
Deadgirl follows two teenagers who discover a (supposedly) dead girl chained to a bed in the basement of an abandoned Asylum. Their friendship is strained when one of them decides to use the girls body for his own sick pleasure. Tensions rise even higher when they discover she’s not actually dead or, to be more specific, she’s undead.
The following red band clip will give you an idea as to the nature of this film which, whilst disturbing, is definitely one of the most creative zombie flicks to surface in a while.
If you haven’t seen the trailer for District 9 you can watch the uncensored version here. You can also read more about the film and watch Neill Blomkamp’s Alive in Joburg (the original short film that District 9 is based upon) here.
District 9 will hit theaters:
14 August 2009 - USA
8 October 2009 - Australia
Although fans are worried about the impact of its new Friday timeslot, at least the long wait is almost over for the return of Eureka when next week the remaining half of season 3’s episodes will begin to air on the Sci Fi Channel. I mean the SyFy Channel.
The next episode will take off where the previous one left off and deal with the firing of Sheriff Carter (Colin Ferguson).
Spoiler ahead
Next week’s episode will introduce Carter’s replacement - a robot named Sheriff Andy. Sheriff Andy is a billion-dollar robot who takes over Carter’s job whilst Carter looks for a new one. Although Andy only lasts as Carter’s replacement for one episode the series co-creator and writer/producer Jaime Paglia likes him so much he wants him back.
“I would like to have Sheriff Andy make a return to the show,” Paglia said. “He very nearly [returns] in the season finale, but I would definitely say that, looking forward optimistically to season four, I think that he would be great to have come back, on at least some kind of recurring basis.”
To add salt to Superman fans’ wounds actor Brandon Routh has confirmed his contract to return as Superman has now lapsed.
“The contract has expired,” Routh said. “I don’t know anything. I’m sure that Warner Bros’ are moving on it, but it’s all uncertain. I really don’t know.”
Although plans for the sequel remain unknown, Routh offers some comfort to fans.
“If they called me for another time I would return without a second thought.”
His comments came from the set of Scott Pilgrim vs The World and were published on The Omelete in Portuguese - the above translations are loose (thanks to a free online translator) but you get the point.
Whilst promoting The Proposal in London actor Ryan Reynolds has provided Empire Mag an update on the highly anticipated X-Men Origins: Wolverine spinoff, Deadpool.
“The studio’s working on a script and trying to find a director,” Reynolds said. “The main goal is to make sure it stays close to the source material.”
It seems, however, that the intention may be to keep the film a little too close to the comic. Reynolds confirms that one of the aspects in the comic that will be adapted to the big-screen will be Deadpool’s ‘breaking of the fourth wall’, a term used to describe when the character talks directly to the audience.
“Break the fourth wall? Oh yeah, he’s got to,” Reynolds said. “I want to see him break the Great Wall.”
The scenes in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off where Ferris talks directly to the audience should give you an idea as to what this really means. Take a look:
It’s comforting to know that the film adaptation to Deadpool is being championed by a die-hard fan of the comic in Ryan Reynolds, however I’m not convinced the film will benefit from this particular idea. I am however convinced that breaking the fourth wall in the film is a very, very bad idea.
The release date of Deadpool remains unknown though it is expected it won’t hit theaters until 2011/2012.
Two new clips have been released for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
The first one is a new TV Spot and the second is a very cool clip where Harry Potter gets lured out of the Weasley home by Bellatrix and a battle of magic begins. Watch them both now:
Thanks to a heads up from Slashfilm I’ve become aware that Amazon have reduced their Limited Edition Batman Begins Blu-Ray Giftset from $49.99 to $14.49 (those are US prices). That’s only 6 cents more expensive than the current second hand price and is actually cheaper than the Blu-Ray on its own.
The Limited Edition Batman Begins Blu-Ray Giftset includes the original Batman Begins Blu-Ray, a 32-page exclusive Dark Knight Prologue book, 16-page comic book of the first 6 minutes of The Dark Knight, a Batman Begins lenticular and five collectible post cards. You also get a discount ticket to see The Dark Knight in theaters which should be fun to try and use now that it’s no longer in theaters.
