Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2

The second season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles will premiere on September 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox, and the news is a major character is going to die. Given that there aren’t that many major characters in the series, and given that we’re well aware John Connor goes on to battle the Terminator’s in the future, that doesn’t leave too many characters to wonder about.

Of course, if the character who is going to die is Sarah Connor herself (and, well, we know she has to die eventually), then it sort of makes the name of the series kind of redundant. For this reason, it’s highly doubtful the death will be Sarah Connor. Despite the fact that reports indicate the role of Thomas Dekker (John Connor) will accelerate as John Connor steps up to take more control in line with his future calling as a leader of the resistance against the machines, it’s surely a fair bet to say Sarah will stick around for a while.

There are really only three more major characters. We have Summer Glau as the georgeous and deadly Terminator named Cameron Phillips, we have FBI agent James Ellison played by Richard T. Jones, and we have Brian Austin Green, the ex Beverly Hills 90210 star playing John Connors uncle, Derek Reese. Read the rest of this entry »

This is a rare opportunity to not only gain access to the film set of the next in the Spiderman movie series, to meet the cast, and to attend the red carpet premiere, but also to obtain a walk-on/extra role in the movie itself.

All you have to do is bid at ebay for your chance to be in Spiderman 4. The highest bidder, just like any other ebay auction, wins. If you’ve got the money, you’ve got the role. If you want to bid, go here.

Spiderman 4 is scheduled to be released in May 2011. The story is as yet unreleased and the cast has not been named. Rumor has it that Tobey McGuire (aka Peter Parker/Spiderman), Kirsten Dunst, J.K Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson), Dylan Baker (Dr. Connors) have all expressed an interest in returning. Rumors on featured Villains include Carnage, the Lizard, Electro and the Vulture. These are all rumors, however, but for the time being, the ebay auction to appear in the film is no rumor. If you’ve got the money, place your bid now and we’ll see you on the big screen!

Eureka Season 3: Show me the Mummy

The fifth episode of Eureka season 3, titled Show me the Mummy, tells the story of an ancient Egyptian tomb that, despite warnings from resident Egyptologist Dr. Wilding, is opened to unleash a serious threat on Eureka and the world.  Though originally warned of a curse, the threat turns out to be much worse with a previously extinct ‘super bug’ that, when it gets inside you, dehydrates you to death in, well, no time.  A few people die before Carter stumbles upon a solution.

The episode was a good one, far superior to the first three episodes of the season, but not as good as the previous episode, I do over. The story flowed on from the previous episode well and continued to tie off loose ends regarding the demise of Stark, as well as delving deeper into the secret agenda of Eva Thorne, aka ‘The Fixer’.  But, despite enjoying the episode,  I’m left wondering why Carter’s sister (Aunt Lexie) is necessary.  The actress, who reminds me somewhat of Uma Thurman, might possibly be a good actress – if her character is designed to be annoying.   I can’t really tell if she is a good actress though as, well, every time there’s a scene with her in it, all I notice is how chronic her character is.  Still, even Aunt Lexie’s character is likeable by comparison to this episodes Dr. Sebastian Marx who, fortunately, was killed early in this episode. Heroes Season 3 starts September 22nd

We’ve been waiting patiently for a long time, and at last the first episode of the third season of Tim Kring’s award winning Heroes premieres within a few weeks (September 22nd). The third season or ‘volume’ of Heroes is collectively titled ‘Villains’, and promises to be a season underpinned by the age old theme of good vs evil.

The first season of Heroes was simply superb story telling at its best. The series came out of nowhere and, moreso, did for the super-hero genre what was really begun by X-Men – made it personal and believable. Naturally the first season rose to critical acclaim, even to the point of dominating viewer records for NBC like no other show had done in years.

The second season of Heroes was good, but it lacked what made the first season great. Firstly, the storyline contained sub-stories that seemed for much of the season largely unattached. Character development was weak and, worse, there were many inconsistencies. Probably the biggest mistake of the second season was the lack of pace and, for most of the season, it simply felt like the whole series had forgotten what it had been working towards in season 1. Doctor Who movie on the cards

Steven Moffat, the award winning scriptwriter considered by many to be the new creative power behind Doctor Who is reportedly keen to see Doctor Who make the transition to the big screen. Moffat, who is credited with driving the series since the departure of Russel T. Davies, apparently told attendees of a recent festival that he is keen to see Doctor Who hit the big screen: “It would be good to see it in the cinema so long as it is great and fantastic….so long as it never gets in the way of the TV show. If it got in the way of the show that would be appalling.”

Doctor Who premiered on television way back in 1963 and despite the immense popularity of the re-imagined modern take on the series, talk of a big screen debut have never been serious. For the millions of fans that the series has around the world combined with the growing number of fans that the series is now attracting in the US, talk of a big screen movie story with the good Doctor is creating quite a stir of interest. Stargate Universe: New Stargate Series coming in 2009

Hot on the heels of the news that Stargate Atlantis would wrap up at the end of season 5, Stargate fans have been treated to some great news.  As of 2009, a new Stargate series will hit television screens, titled Stargate Universe.    The new series will premiere as a 2 hour movie in early 2009 and will introduce a team of explorers who discover an ancient and abandoned ship called Destiny.   Destiny will be on a pre-programmed mission to the far reaches of the Universe, leaving the team unable to return to Earth.

According to reports, the show will include a lot of space based action, and be less land based than either of the previous two Stargate series.  In what might be great news, series producers have stated they don’t intend to just remake the first two Stargate series, but intend to reinvigorate the new series completely. Battlestar Galactica movie given greenlight

The Sci Fi Channel have announced a Battlestar Galactica movie is in the works and will be released in 2009.  The movie will premiere on Sci Fi after the last half of the fourth and final season ends in 2009, before finding its way to DVD.   It will be written by Battlestar Galactica co-executive producer Jane Espenson and directed by Edward James Olmos.  The movie is, however, a prequel, and seems like it will center primarily on the Cylons as they attack Caprica but things don’t go as planned – all the humans are not wiped out.   The movie will focus on the efforts of the Cyclons to deal with unplanned survivors, and will no doubt provide a deeper explanation of the Cylons ‘plan’ that the opening credits of the series have alluded to.  Confirmed stars are Dean Stockwell (Cylon Cavil), Michael Trucco (Sam Anders) and Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol).

If it has the words ‘Battlestar Galactica’ in it I’ll be keenly waiting, but I have to add, Read the rest of this entry »

Fifth Season of Stargate Atlantis is its last, then a movie

Whilst Stargate Atlantis continues to herald some of the best science fiction television around, it is sad to say that the fifth season of this brilliant series will be its last. Yes, that means the current series, on air right now, is the last. The 100th episode of the series will be its final episode, titled ‘Enemy at the Gate.’

There is, however, a silver lining on the Atlantis cancellation rainbow. The Sci Fi Channel have announced that a two hour Stargate Atlantis movie will be produced following the end of the fifth season. The movie will premiere on Sci Fi after which MGM will release it to DVD.

It seems the Stargate SG1 movies have been successful such that Atlantis will now follow in SG1’s footsteps. This is good news in totality, for it means that fans can expect more Stargate SG1 and more Stargate Atlantis in the future. Read the rest of this entry »

Stargate Atlantis: Season 5, Episode 6: The Shrine

Stargate Atlantis continues it’s run of excellent episodes with it’s latest instalment, The Shrine. In the Shrine, the Atlantis team find themselves stuck on top of a stargate in a flooded valley, freezing cold and awaiting help. When they finally make it back, Dr. McKay has fallen ill. It turns out that a parasitic organism has burrowed into his brain, the symptoms of which are memory loss and, ultimately, death. With little time to live, McKay’s sister is summoned from Earth to say goodbye.

This episode was quite emotional, and the acting ability of David Hewlett was quite honestly superb. The symptoms of the parasite in his brain emerge in a similar fashion to the symptoms of alzheimers disease. In my youth, I watched my grandmother slowly deteriorate from alzheimers disease and I can say from experience that Hewlett’s performance was on the money and, for much of the episode, kept me flashing back to the experiences with my Grandmother. There is one scene in the episode where McKay who, though losing his memory, jokes by calling Sheppard the wrong name. They both laugh, and this reminded me of my real life experiences – alzheimers, though sad, can often lead to humorous forgetful moments. Read the rest of this entry »

Babylon A.D.

In the new sci fi movie Babylon A.D. based on the 700 page Maurice Georges Dantec novel, Babylon Babies. The story follows a mercenary named Thoorop (Vin Diesel) who is hired to deliver a woman named Aurora (Melanie Thierry) from the ravages of a futuristic post-apocalyptic Eastern Europe to New York. But Aurora has a secret, and Thoorop soon learns that the secret she carries has the potential to become the next Messiah, and he must protect her at all costs.

The preview shows indications of spectacular special effects and perhaps some major action scenes, yet despite this all indications to date are that the movie is not so hot. Variety call it a “noiser, costlier version of Children of Men” in their review of the film. That said, the film has been compared to The Fifth Element which may not be all that bad, although The Fifth Element never took itself too seriously. Read the rest of this entry »
