Some collectibles are must haves when it comes to serious fans, and this replica Cyber Controller from the 2006 David Tennant Doctor Who episode ‘The Age of Steel’ fits that category.

Sculpted by Weta Workshop’s David Tremont and Ben Hawker, it stands (or is that sits?) 31cm high and will become a sure-fire rare collectible since it’s a Limited Edition of only 900 pieces.

Buying one will set you back NZD$488.00  (around US $277) which is really quite cheap considering these are not only limited editions, but they are A+++ perfect high quality scale replica’s.  Honestly, this is one #$%@%@ awesome collectible that we are going gah gah over.

‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’: New Megan Fox Image

Yahoo Movies have posted a gallery of images from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.  The gallery contains images we’ve posted here before, except for one which is a new image of Megan Fox playing Mikaela Banes in the film. Since there’s only been a handful of stills released from Revenge of the Fallen that have featured the woman voted as “sci-fi’s sexiest”, and since this is about the best one released so far, we thought we’d post it too.

Zoe Saldana Shares Her Views On Abrams, Cameron And ‘Avatar’

It’s a big-budget sci-fi year for actor Zoe Saldana.  In the first week of May J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek premieres in which she stars as the leading female cast member, Nyota Uhura.  In December she stars as Neytiri, a prominent (and CGI) character in James Cameron’s soon-to-change-the-way-we-view-movies epic, Avatar.  With both sci-fi films looking like translating into trilogy’s, the sci-fi sky seems to have no limits for this talented and beautiful actress.

MTV recently caught up with Saldana who shared her views on what it was like having the fortune to work with two of Hollywood’s top filmmakers.

“It’s amazing for an actor to work with J.J. and Jim,” Saldana gushed. “They are similar in that they are exquisite at what they do, and they are young at heart.  J.J. has made a very important place for himself in Hollywood by being an exquisite writer. And Jim has done the same by being an amazing voyager and visionary, and a great filmmaker.”

So what does she think of her experience on Avatar?

Todd McFarlane To Write, Direct & Produce A New ‘Spawn’ Film?

Spawn

Whilst at the red carpet premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Spawn creator and legendary all-things-fanboy-inspiring Todd McFarlane has provided insight into his intentions towards the production of a new Spawn film.

“Right now I literally have five offers on the table,” he told IESB. “Everything from the big studio’s, and the big budgeted, you know, big production with a lot of special effects…to where I’m leaning which is actually, sort of a smaller budget, just keep it down, keep it dark, keep it grungy.”

He continues, “I mean I’ve got two teenage daughters and I’m trying to come up with an idea that I’ve been living with for ten years that would actually get them and their dates to go to it. It’s not a comic book movie, its just a scary movie, a creepy movie that happens to have..everythings real except for one element..which happens to be the character we know as Spawn…so it’s not going to be a supervillain versus superhero or any of that stuff, it’s just gonna be a tight movie..think of Departed..with something moving in the shadows a little bit.”

Despite potential big-budget offers, McFarlane is keen to do his creation justice by retaining complete control over the direction the new film takes.

“Problem is, if I go big, they’ll only let me produce it. If I go small, they’ll let me write and direct it. So I gotta get it down small enough, which is the idea I’ve had, which basically keeps it small enough that they’ve gotta go get a schmuck director..and I’ll go, ‘well I’ll be the schmuck’.”

So either the studios lose a cash cow, or they hand McFarlane a big-budget deal that let’s him write, produce and direct it.  We love indie films, but when it comes to a potential Spawn remake, we’d love to see it done properly.  Hopefully the studios will listen and give McFarlane a big budget and the entire helm.

You can watch the full interview at IESB.

Disney’s ‘Star Wars Weekends’ Promotional Posters

Disney has devised a humorous set of posters to promote awareness of their 2009 Star Wars Weekends event.  These are actually not designed for the public – they are images used “backstage” for employees eyes only (apparently to inspire them into the right mood!).

Thanks to Star Wars.com because this time around we can all enjoy them (click images for larger sizes).

‘Star Trek’ The Latest Casualty Of Swine Flu

Star Trek

Paramount have announced they are calling off the May 8 launch of Star Trek in Mexico because of the swine flu epidemic.

Like Fox with its postponement of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Paramount will continue to monitor the situation towards setting a new Mexican premiere date.

How important is the situation as far as box office revenue is concerned?  Significant.  Mexico is one of the highest grossing territories with consistent top ten box office takings.  As an example, Mexico provided the third highest gross worldwide for X-Men: The Last Stand.
