Free Preview of ‘Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead’

The upcoming Doctor Who special ‘Planet of the Dead’, starring David Tennant and Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman / Merlin), will air on April 12 – but if you’re keen to see a preview of it here’s your chance.

Three different venues in the UK have been selected to show an advance screening of the special.

Whilst the previews are rumored to occur in Denby and Newport, as yet the only confirmed venue seems to be Theatr Hafren in Newton, Wales.  Theatr Hafren will host the screening on April 10.

Theatr Hafren director Sara Clutton said: “We are absolutely delighted, it is something free for our customers and we are delighted to be able to open our doors and put on something different. It just builds on the success we had at the Here for You roadshow two years ago.”

Anyone who would like to attend the exclusive screening should contact the ticket line on 0330 3330560.

Unfinished Cut Of ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ Leaked Online

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The internet is buzzing with the news that an early cut of X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been leaked online and it seems quite a few people have already downloaded and watched it.

The version leaked online is a Workprint only and doesn’t contain polished effects or, from what I gather via Twitter posts, any effects at all in some places.

A quick search has shown the movie spreading through peer-to-peer and torrent sites everywhere.  I’m not going to post any links here as whilst I realize many fans will be eager to catch a glimpse of the film before it premieres, I think doing so does an incredible injustice to the movie.  It should be seen as it was meant to be seen and no other way.  It simply cannot be the same experience otherwise.

Additionally, I am a strong advocate for the film and television industry to embrace worldwide immediate release of its movies and televisions for download, and it is precisely situations such as this that work against the progress being made in that area.  Whilst some fans may rejoice at the chance to get an early cut of the film before anyone else, the damage this does to both the film and the future of the internet as a viable platform for delivery is not worth the opportunity to see a half-baked version of the film a few weeks early.

There is only one saving grace that can be drawn from this situation – those that have downloaded it have been happy to post comments that even though it is incomplete, the movie is awesome.  So go see it at the cinema.

Sterling Beaumon Sheds Some Light On ‘Lost’

Lost

Jon Gries (Roger Linus), Sterling Beaumon (young Ben), Horace Goodspeed (Doug Hutchison) in Lost

Lost’s Sterling Beaumon (aka young Ben) has offered TV Guide a few teasing hints relative to the time travel storyline and has answered two nagging questions that have been on many fans lips:  Can they change the future and how old is young Ben anyway?

If you haven’t seen last week’s episode of Lost (5.10 ‘He’s Our You’) then you probably won’t want to read on from here as this contains spoilers.  If you have seen it, then you’re safe to read on although there are some answers offered up that you might still consider to be spoilers (that’s a small warning right there – it might even be fair to say these are major spoilers). Anyway, you’ve been warned…

Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter Telemovie Green-Lit

Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter

Lionsgate and After Dark Films are set to adapt Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter novels into a made-for-television movie.

There are 16 novels in the Anita Blake series that have sold more than 6 million copies worldwide. Similar to True Blood the fictional world of Anita Blake is an alternate Earth where Vampires and Shapeshifters are an accepted part of normal society. The story follows Blake’s character as she deals with the supernatural, dating and sex.

There is also a monthly Marvel comic-book adaptation of the series (in partnership with Dabel Brothers) which was launched in 2006. The comic is also written by Laurell K. Hamilton and also by Stacie M. Ritchie with illustrations by Brett Booth.

Glen Morgan (X-Files/ Millenium/Space Above and Beyond) wrote the adaptation and will be involved as an Executive Producer.

Production is scheduled to begin this summer.
