Fox Announces Reboot of ‘Fantastic Four’

Back in March we heard of plans to reboot Fantastic Four, but now 20th Century Fox have made it official.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of Disney’s announcement that they’re acquiring Marvel, although I’m unable to say if there’s any connection since Fox have perpetual rights to make Fantastic Four movies for as long as, well, as long as they want.

Terry Gilliam’s Take on Zack Snyder’s ‘Watchmen’

At this years San Diego Comic-Con Quint from Aint it Cool News managed to score a 30 minute interview with Terry Gilliam (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus / Twelve Monkeys).

During the interview Terry Gilliam offered up his thoughts on how he felt about Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. It’s an interesting read, mostly because at one time Gilliam was trying to turn the so-called un-filmable graphic novel into a film himself.

If you’re a fan of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles here is the best news you’ve heard all year.

Although the show was cancelled by Fox back in May, Thomas Dekker (aka John Connor) has just confirmed that the fight to keep the show alive is far from over, and that the real possibility exists that it may continue in the format of a made-for-dvd movie.

‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’ Gets a US Release Date?

A number of blog sites are reporting the news that Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus will be released in US theaters on Christmas Day.

It seems the news was first reported by ComingSoon.net who identify the source as themselves.  It should be pointed out that whilst their report may eventually be confirmed, neither Sony Pictures Classics nor the producers of the film have released an official announcement at this time.

Disney to acquire Marvel in $4 billion deal

Walt Disney Co. is about to acquire ownership of Marvel Entertainment in a deal worth $4 billion.

Both companies have approved the deal which will see Disney become the owner of Marvel’s 5000+ characters, including Iron Man, Spider-Man, and X-Men.

Originally scheduled for release June 25, 2010, the film will now premiere December 17, 2010.

Visual Effects: 100 Years of Inspiration

Check out this pretty cool and very enjoyable video titled Visual Effects: 100 Years of Inspiration.  The video, originally intended for educational use in a classroom lecture, provides a stark reminder of just how far visual effects in film have progressed in recent times.

The video comes from YouTube user bengraphic who describes it as a “5th-grader-friendly collection of clips and making-of footage from notable visual effects films of the past century.”

There’s Enough Material in ‘Surrogates’ For Many Sequels

In a recent interview with ComingSoon.net, director Jonathon Mostow (Hancock / Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) has stated that there’s enough material behind his upcoming sci-fi action thriller Surrogates to fill many sequels.

“There’s enough ideas in here for a few sequels,” he then adds jokingly, “but maybe by sequel number four or five when we’re really strapped for ideas we’ll start having the Surrogates fight back. Surrogates 5: Rise of the Surrogates.”
