No Universal Soldier’s in ‘Rambo V: The Savage Hunt’

Nothing like a little misinformation or misinterpretation of information to keep fans on their toes.

It seems previous reports detailing the premise that Rambo V: The Savage Hunt would feature Rambo hunting Universal Soldier type super soldiers were wrong.

‘Rambo V: The Savage Hunt’ Goes Sci-Fi

Rambo 5

Earlier this week Nu Image/Millennium Films officially announced that Sylvester Stallone’s next pic (after he completes The Expendables) would be a fifth Rambo movie.

Naturally I didn’t report the news on Sci Fi Scoop because clearly Rambo isn’t a sci-fi franchise.  Well, it hasn’t been until now…yes, that’s right, Rambo V: The Savage Hunt is going sci-fi!

First Look: ‘Universal Soldiers: The Next Generation’

IGN have posted a new image from the new Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren movie, Universal Soldiers: The Next Generation’.

Van Damme and Lundgren in 'Universal Soldiers: The Next Generation'

Van Damme and Lundgren in 'Universal Soldiers: The Next Generation'

Universal Soldiers: The Next Generation is being billed as Universal Soldier 3, which is kind of weird given that it’s actually the fifth movie in the Universal Soldier series, although it is only the third to star Van Damme.

Universal Soldier was released in 1992, at which point Van Damme was 32 years old.  He’s now 48.  Lundgren is 51 – you can do the math on how old he was in 1992.  Really it’s quite amazing to think of Stallone, Van Damme and Lundgren simultaneously making action flicks all these years later (not forgetting that Lundgren is actually starring in Stallone’s The Expendables).  Interestingly Van Damme apparently turned down an offer from Stallone to star in The Expendables.  The story goes he wanted a role with more character development…

Four New Stargate Universe Cast Members

Lou Diamond-Phillips, Alaina Huffman Elyse Levesque, Mind-Na

Stargate Universe has taken a great step forward with the announcement of four new excellent cast members.   News that Lou Diamond Phillips, Ming-Na, Elyse Levesque and Alaina Huffman will be joining the new series has been received well by the Stargate fan community.  The new announcements complete the new cast, joining previously announced Robert Carlyle, Justin Louis, David Blue, Jamil Walker Smith and Brian J. Smith.

Stargate Universe follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians who are forced to survive after they find themselves trapped aboard an ancient ship and unable to return to Earth.

Lou Diamond-Phillips (Courage Under Fire / Young Guns) will play Colonel Telford, a lifelong military man and (apparently) the chosen leader of the expedition.  His actual role remains somewhat uncertain, since previous announcements have pegged veteran actor Robert Carlyle, who plays Dr. Nicholas Rush, as the leader of the expedition.  Speculation has already begun that Lou Diamond-Phillips may appear only in the premiere, with his character destined to be killed off in much the same way as well known actor Robert Patrick’s character was made expendable in the premiere of Stargate Atlantis.  Of course this is all speculation at this point – Universal have refused to give away any details according to Gateworld.

Alaina Huffman (Painkiller Jane / Broken August / Black Canary) will play Tamara Johansen, an Air Force officer with only paramedic-level training that ends up being the most medically knowledgeable person on the ship.  She will have to struggle with being the ship’s needed yet unqualified Doctor.   Alaina Huffman is also known as  Alaina Kalanj.

Elyse Levesque (Smallville / Flash Gordon) will play Chloe Armstrong,  the civilian daughter of a U.S. Senator.

Ming-Na (Push / Vanished / ER) will play Camille Wray, an I.O.A. representative and hard edged HR Exec.

Production on the new series is underway in Vancouver, Canada.
