In the new sci fi movie Babylon A.D. based on the 700 page Maurice Georges Dantec novel, Babylon Babies. The story follows a mercenary named Thoorop (Vin Diesel) who is hired to deliver a woman named Aurora (Melanie Thierry) from the ravages of a futuristic post-apocalyptic Eastern Europe to New York. But Aurora has a secret, and Thoorop soon learns that the secret she carries has the potential to become the next Messiah, and he must protect her at all costs.

The preview shows indications of spectacular special effects and perhaps some major action scenes, yet despite this all indications to date are that the movie is not so hot. Variety call it a “noiser, costlier version of Children of Men” in their review of the film. That said, the film has been compared to The Fifth Element which may not be all that bad, although The Fifth Element never took itself too seriously. Read the rest of this entry »
