Ron Moore and David Eick talk Galactica and Caprica

Battlestar GalacticaAfter what seems like an eternity, on January 16 the Sci Fi channel will commence airing the final half of the last ever season of Battlestar Galactica.  There are eleven episodes in total and from all accounts, they promise to be nothing short of superb.

The series has been brilliant from day dot, but whether you agree with this statement or not, there is one thing that is absolutely certain – there are a lot of unanswered questions yet to be resolved.  No, Battlestar Galactica hasn’t been like Lost, where every answer just continues to lead to another unanswered question (I concede, this may change with Lost’s final season).  But its storyline has been deep to say the least, and with such depth comes many loose and tangled ends.

Executive Producers Ronald  D. Moore and David Eick have teased fans with an exclusive interview over at TV.Guide, where they state that questions will be answered…with the caveat word of ’sort of’, and add a few tid bits of information regarding the upcoming Battlestar prequel, Caprica.  I don’t really know what ’sort of’ means, but I’m sure roughly 12 weeks from now that’ll change.

In the meantime, go have a read of the interview at TV.Guide, it’s short but interesting.

When it comes to sci fi television series anyone with half a brain recognizes that Battlestar Galactica is the cream of the crop.  It consistently delivers unbelievably professional quality television, so much so that it is the benchmark for all other series to aspire to.

On January 16, after what seems like an eternity of waiting, the final eleven hours of the series will air on scifi.com and the series will conclude once and for all.  But we don’t have to wait that long for a fix.

Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 trailer

The final ever episodes of Battlestar Galactica begin on January 16.  Here’s the promo trailer.

Battlestar prequel series ‘Caprica’ gets green light

capricaIn my view the modern remake of Battlestar Galactica is by far the greatest science fiction series ever made for television.  On January 16 the final episodes of Season 4 will air on scifi.com, after which Battlestar Galactica will end.  But there’s good news.

A while back we reported that the Sci Fi Channel had commissioned production of a 2 hour prequel series pilot titled Caprica.  It seems the pilot must have impressed the powers that be, for it hasn’t aired yet and already the signatures are on the dotted line for a further 20 hours.  Yep, that’s 20 episodes of a whole brand new series based in the Battlestar Galactica universe.

I admit, I’ve never been a fan of prequels and, even in the case of Battlestar Galactica, I’ve tended to sigh each time I hear the word.  But, in this case, I’d rather a prequel than nothing at all.

Caprica is set some 50 years before the events that take place in Battlestar Galactica and it follows the story of two rival families as they compete across the 12 Colonies.  It will also chronicle the creation of the Cylons and no doubt the first Cylon war.  It is being touted as televisions first real science fiction family saga. Battlestar Galactica movie given greenlight

The Sci Fi Channel have announced a Battlestar Galactica movie is in the works and will be released in 2009.  The movie will premiere on Sci Fi after the last half of the fourth and final season ends in 2009, before finding its way to DVD.   It will be written by Battlestar Galactica co-executive producer Jane Espenson and directed by Edward James Olmos.  The movie is, however, a prequel, and seems like it will center primarily on the Cylons as they attack Caprica but things don’t go as planned – all the humans are not wiped out.   The movie will focus on the efforts of the Cyclons to deal with unplanned survivors, and will no doubt provide a deeper explanation of the Cylons ‘plan’ that the opening credits of the series have alluded to.  Confirmed stars are Dean Stockwell (Cylon Cavil), Michael Trucco (Sam Anders) and Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol).

If it has the words ‘Battlestar Galactica’ in it I’ll be keenly waiting, but I have to add, Read the rest of this entry »
