The CW Network have released an extended trailer for their new vampire drama series The Vampire Diaries. The trailer lasts for over five minutes and certainly helps to make this promising new series look top quality.
The Vampire Diaries is based on a series of novels by American author LJane Smith that follow the story of a high school girl who falls in love with and becomes torn between two vampire brothers – one good and one evil. The brothers end up at war over her soul as well as the souls of her friends, family members, and town.
The brothers are played by Fallen’s Paul Wesley (Stefan) and Lost’s Ian Somerhalder (Damon). From the trailers they look like they’re perfectly suited to the synergy required of their roles.
Elena, the girl who they are at war over and who herself becomes torn between both vampire brothers, is played by Nina Dobrev (Degressi: The Next Generation).
The Vampire Diaries will premiere Thursday’s at 8:00pm on the CW Network this fall.

Nina Dobrev stars as Elena in 'The Vampire Diaries'
CW’s The Vampire Diaries has moved from a pilot to a full series according to a report on the LA Times.
The Vampire Diaries is a series of novels by American author LJane Smith that follow the story of a high school girl who falls in love with and becomes torn between two vampire brothers – one good and one evil. The brothers end up at war over her soul as well as the souls of her friends, family members, and town.
Paul Wesley plays Stefan, one of the brothers. 26 year old Wesley’s previous credits include playing an Angel (Aaron Corbett) in ABC’s Fallen and Lucas Luthor in an episode of Smallville.
Ian Somerhalder plays the second brother Damon. Somerhalder is well known for playing the character of Boone in 28 episodes of Lost. Just like his Vampire Diaries co-star Wesley, he has also appeared in Smallville where he played the character of Adam Knight in six different episodes.
20 year old Nina Dobrev plays Elena, the heroine who finds herself torn between both the vampire brothers. Dobrev is best known for her portrayal of Mia Jones in Degressi: The Next Generation but has also appeared in Eleventh Hour and The Border.
“[The Vampire Diaries] taps into what women have been fascinated with for years,” CW President of Entertainment Dawn Ostroff said. “‘Dark Shadows,’ ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,’ and ‘Twilight.’ ” It’s a great story about a young woman who is in a love triangle between two brothers. It’s all about her life. We like that it’s romantic and dangerous all at the same time.”
The Vampire Diaries will premiere on the CW Network in the US during the 3rd quarter of 2009.

Ian Somerhalder to star in 'The Vampire Diaries'
Ian Somerhalder (aka Boone on ABC’s Lost) has joined the cast of The CW Television Network’s drama pilot based on the The Vampire Diaries novels.
Somerhalder will play a smug vampire named Damon who is said to switch from playful to evil in a split second.
He joins Zach Roerig (Friday Night Lights), who will play the jock Matt, Kayla Ewell (Entourage), who will play Matt’s sister, as well as Nina Dobrev and Steven R. McQueen.
