The second season of True Blood will be based upon the novel ‘Living Dead in Dallas’, the second book in the Sookie Stackhouse series by author Charlaine Harris.
True Blood creator Alan Ball recently told USA Today: “Sookie is drafted into using her telepathic abilities to find a vampire in Dallas who’s gone missing.” He also added that whilst Sookie helps the Vampires, her brother Jason gets involved with the anti-vampire group ‘Fellowship of the Sun’.
Sookie is played by Anna Paquin and her brother Jason is played by Ryan Kwanten. Paquin won two Best Actress awards (a Golden Globe and a Satellite Award) for her role in season 1 of True Blood.

Carrie Preston as Arlene in 'True Blood'
In an interview with Sci Fi Wire Carrie Preston (aka Arlene Fowler) has teased fans with a little information on what to expect from True Blood’s upcoming second season.
** Minor spoilers ahead **
From Sci Fi Wire:
“We just finished the fifth episode,” Preston said. “Starting the sixth one today out of 12, so we’re almost halfway through already.”
“Things are going to get a little crazy on the show. There’s going to be a bunch of new sort of supernatural things that are being introduced. Besides the … the vampires. And, as far as Arlene goes, well, let’s just say that Arlene’s not the type of woman to be single for very long.”
The show’s second season will see the the return of the original cast plus the addition of Valerie Cruz, Anna Camp and Ashley Jones, as well as Battlestar Galactica’s Michelle Forbes, Mehcad Brooks and Deborah Ann Woll.
When asked about possible character deaths in the upcoming season, Preston replied:
Some new characters have been introduced, and, you know, it remains to be seen whether they will live or die. That’s the thing with being on the show, you just never know: Are you going to make it? Are you going to make it through the season? Especially now that they’ve departed from the books. Because when I got the job, of course, I read all the books to see if Arlene lives, and she does in the books, but who knows?

True Blood returns to HBO 14 June 2009.

The hit vampire series True Blood has its name derived from the fictional synthetic blood in the series that, thanks to being bottled and commercialized under the brand name ‘Tru Blood’, has enabled vampires to come out of the closet.
In what can be described as perhaps another instance of life imitating art, British Scientists report that they are on track towards making synthetic blood as part of a three year project.
From The Daily Mail:
British scientists are on course to become the first to create synthetic human blood from embryonic stem cells, it emerged today.
The ground-breaking project could provide an unlimited supply of blood for emergency transfusions free of the risk of infection.
If successful, it remains unclear how long it will take them to bottle it…
Lately New Zealand seem to be leading the rest of the world as far as creative advertising campaigns go. Following hot on the heels of Sky’s impressive ad campaign for their premiere of Alien Vs Predator, HBO have expertly come up with their own idea to market True Blood (which premiered on the HBO channel last night in NZ).
They erected billboards with signs depicting a hand driving a stake through a vampires heart alongside the slogan ‘IN CASE OF VAMPIRE’. The signs were accompanied with line after line of ready-to-grab-in-case-of-emergency stakes, with ‘Snap Here’ written above them. Brilliant!

Valerie Cruz to play a vampire in True Blood
Valerie Cruz has scored a recurring role in Season 2 of HBO’s top rated vampire drama, True Blood.
Cruz, who is well known for her role as Lt. Connie Murphy in The Dresden Files and more recently as Sylvia Prado in Dexter, will play an elegant Hispanic vampire named Isabel.
She can also be seen in upcoming sci-fi actioner The Devil’s Tomb where she plays a CIA Operative that hires an elite soldier (Cuba Gooding Jr) to rescue a scientist (Ron Perlman) from an underground laboratory that, it turns out, harbors a creature not of this Earth. The Devils Tomb is scheduled for release in October 2009.
The first episode of True Blood’s season 2 will air 3 May 2009.

Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer in True Blood
I’m usually not a big fan of this sort of gossip, but I couldn’t help but post this one from TV Guide because somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind I felt it actually adds something to the series True Blood. Anna Paquin, who plays Sookie Stackhouse in the series, and Stephen Moyer who plays her Vampire love interest Bill Compton, have officially announced they’ve been a couple since they auditioned.
In the series Paquin’s character is a telepath who falls in love with Moyer’s vampire when she discovers she is unable to read his mind like she can normal humans. Whilst their on screen romance is pivotal to the story behind True Blood, they have kept their off-screen romance completely secret.
“The reason it was dodged last year was very intentional on both our parts,” says Moyer. “It was very important to me that the cast and crew we were working with didn’t feel it was fickle, and didn’t feel it could possibly potentially encroach on their lives, you know, just like, ‘Oh the two stars are having a thing.’ We didn’t want to take anything away from the show. The show is the star, not the two people having a relationship.”
He adds: “We always take the piss out of each other and are silly with each other and it is great. We’re very, very happy. She’s the best.”
The first episode in season 2 of HBO’s True Blood will air on 3 May, 2009.

Out of nowhere comes True Blood, a modern-day drama where vampires and humans struggle to co-exist in an alternate reality type of setting. In its HBO debut, 1.4 million viewers tuned in and it seems word travels fast, for when it was subsequently rebroadcast another 2.1 million tuned in. HBO expect the viewer tally to hit 4 million once additional screening platforms are factored in.
These incredible viewer numbers, which rival that of Heroes, are well deserved. The first episode of the series was overall quite brilliant and reeked of being a ‘cult classic’ in the making. Although the first episode didn’t give away much of an overall story arc, the background story of a type of racism – perhaps a ‘species-ism’, is well conceived.
The main characters of True Blood seem perfectly cast. Anna Paquin, who played Rogue in the X-Men movies, is perfect as the telepathic, and possibly telekinetic character of Sookie Stackhouse, who convinces you on one hand that she is a women of immense power and yet at the same time is as feeble as a little girl. The object of her affections, a vampire by the hilarious name of ‘Bill’ played by Stephen Moyer (88 Minutes), is broodingly acted exceptionally well, to the point where he is literally scary, even though you know he’s really the good guy…or is he?
The story will follow Sookie as love grows between her and Bill, and the ramifications of which take place two years after ‘vampires came out of the coffin’…..we’ll be looking forward to watching more episodes of this very interesting and unique series.
