Amazing “What’s In The Box?” Short Film Raises Interest

Last month a short film titled What’s in the Box? was uploaded to Youtube. If you haven’t seen it before, watch it now – it blew us away:
The short film, labeled as a ‘test film’, has generated a lot of buzz over the last month or so with speculation that it was a viral video for Lost, or that it was promoting Half Life 2 - and a variety of other guesses.
The truth, however, is that the video isn’t connected to anything. It’s just a very cool short from Dutch student filmmaker Tim Smit and his friend Thibaut Niels.
Still, that hasn’t stopped Hollywood from taking notice. Director Tim Smith has since been contacted by a representative of a division of 20th Century Fox wanting to learn more about him. Interestingly, they were shocked when he told them how much it cost to make the movie.
“A little over 150 Euros and a pizza,” Smit claims.
“Oh my god,” was the response from the 20th Century Fox representative.

Smit, a physics student, says he was a huge movie fanatic and taught himself how to do effects. Now he’s keen to turn his talent towards creating a full blown, first-person perspective feature film. He says some people are skeptical that a first person feature film can work, but he wants to give it a shot. All he needs is the funding.
So, after all is said and done, what ’s really in the box? Turns out we might need him to make that feature film after all if we want an answer:
“That’s part of a bigger story,” he says.
