Check out these desktop wallpaper designs based on Imagi Animation Studios new animated 3-D film of Osamu Tezuka’s popular Japanese character Astro Boy.

The images aren’t as large as I would like for a desktop wallpaper (1024×768), but they’re the largest I could find. See them all after the jump.

The story of Astro Boy takes place in futuristic Metro City.  It follows a young robot built with incredible powers by a brilliant scientist trying to replace the son that he has lost.  The young robot (Astro Boy) is unable to fulfill the grieving man’s expectations and so embarks on a journey to learn about himeslf, the world, and ultimately must battle to save Metro City.

Freddie Highmore (The Spiderwick Chronicles / The Golden Compass) provides the voice of Astro Boy and Nicolas Cage is the voice of Dr. Tenma.  Donald Sutherland and Kristen Bell’s (Heroes) voices are also featured.  David Bowers (Flushed Away) directs.

Astro Boy hits theaters October 23 2009.
