Chris Hemsworth is 'Thor'

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and director Kenneth Branagh have cast Australian Chris Hemsworth to star in the lead role of their upcoming feature film adaptation of Thor.

Yes, Chris Hemsworth is Thor.

Though Hemsworth is a relative unknown you’ve probably already seen him in action.  He’s the guy that played Kirk’s dad in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek.  If you live in Australia then you would most definitely know him as Kim Hyde in soapie Home and Away.

Hemsworth now joins the ranks of Australian actors making it big in Hollywood.  After nailing the role of George Kirk in Star Trek, only last week he scored the lead in MGM’s remake of Red Dawn.  You’ll see him in Joss Whedon’s upcoming horror flick Cabin in the Woods and alongside Milla Jovovich in the upcoming horror film A Perfect Getaway.

Apparently Hemsworth read for the part of Thor but a casting director passed on him early on.  Hemsworth has a great rep by the name of William Ward (ROAR Management) who talked Marvel Studio’s President Kevin Feige into giving Hemsworth a second chance.  Once Marvel put Hemsworth on tape auditioning for the role as Thor, it was “Oh my god”.  All it took was for director Kenneth Branagh to see the tape and the final decision was made.

Watch the following video from the Australian The Morning Show. The hosts are retarded but Chris Hemsworth handles it well as he talks about himself and his role in Star Trek.  It also contains a couple of short clips of him in action in Star Trek.
