‘Avatar’: First Official Photo of Sam Worthington and his Avatar

UPDATE AUGUST 19: Marketsaw have confirmed the Na’vi in the tank is not Jakes, it is Norm Spellman’s (David Joel Moore’s). The image is apparently not from the film, but a composite. So whilst it is an official image, it’s not what everyone thought it was.

The first official photo from Avatar has been released (above).

The photo shows Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, a paraplegic war veteran who is given the opportunity to travel to the planet Pandora by having his consciousness transferred into a specially designed body born of a mixture of cloned human and native alien (Na’vi) DNA. Behind him is his Na’vi body – his Avatar.

Also, if you’re going to be in one of the few locations where Fox will be screening 15 minutes of footage from the film as part of their ‘Avatar Day‘, then you’ll have to be on the ball Monday to score your tickets online. Theater information and ticket instructions will become available sometime on Monday at AvatarMovie.com. There is a limit of only 2 tickets per purchaser.

Avatar Day takes place August 21, 2009.
