The above image is of director James Cameron on the set of Avatar.  He’s manning one of the heavy machine guns and looking the part dressed in camo.

If you’re wondering, Cameron isn’t making a cameo in the film.  It’s just another image from the set.

If you’re starving for some real images from the film, join the club – but don’t forget they’re coming in just 20 days.

Fifteen minutes of James Cameron’s Avatar will be shown to audiences around the world completely free of charge in selected Imax and other 3D theaters on August 21.  On the same day the trailer will be officially released.  There’ll be plenty of Avatar to feast your eyes upon then.

Avatar hits theaters:
Australia – December 17, 2009
USA & UK – December 18, 2009

If you were to deploy US Marines to an alien planet with tropical vegetation then it would be wise to choose colours that work in a tropical rainforest otherwise known as jungle. The camouflage pattern worn in the film Avatar is too light for the terrain. The shapes and colours are similar to the current issue US Marine Corps camouflage pattern called MARPAT but apart from the black all the colours are much lighter. The camouflage pattern looks how MARPAT appears when it is very faded. The green and brown on the camouflage pattern should be much darker, then it would look a lot more like jungle vegetation and not like grassland vegetation.
