Despite being surrounded by some amazingly poor reviews Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is still dominating the box office.

After breaking the all-time box office take for a Wednesday ($60.6M) the Paramount flick has taken another $28.6M on Thursday to score one of the best Thursday US domestic grosses in history.  On only its second day of release in the US the film has pulled in $89.3M.

Internationally the Transformers sequel drew $20M raising its foreign cume to $80M, putting the worldwide tally to $169.3M.

Based on its performance to date, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is on track to enter the history books as one of the all-time biggest five day openers in history. The current record-holder for best five-day domestic gross is The Dark Knight with $203.8 million.  Second is Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith with $172.8M followed by Spider-Man 3 with $169.4M. Pundits are estimating Revenge of the Fallen to fall somewhere in the $160-$180M mark.

Although the film is still tracking strongly, it should nonetheless be pointed out that the US domestic take on Thursday dropped 52.8% from the opening day.
