BBC Announces The Return Of Hit Fantasy Series ‘Merlin’
The BBC has announced the second season of hit series Merlin will kick off on Saturday nights this autumn in the UK.
Colin Morgan returns as Merlin, who must fulfil his destiny to protect the young Prince Arthur (Bradley James) and the kingdom of Camelot, a place where magic has been banned by the ruthless King Uther (Anthony Head).
Also returning are Katie McGrath as Morgana, Angel Coulby as Gwen, Richard Wilson as Gaius and John Hurt as the voice of the Great Dragon.
Bethan Jones, Executive Producer for BBC, said: “With its combination of fantasy, humour and adventure Merlin has firmly established itself as a Saturday evening family fixture. It’s great to be working again with the brilliant Shine team who have put together a thrilling second series.”
Merlin is executive produced by the award-winning Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy for Shine Television, with Bethan Jones executive producer for BBC.

It’s going to be bigger, bolder and more action-packed than ever, with great new villains, white knuckle fight sequences and hilarious comic fun for the whole family to enjoy.”
The series will once again enjoy top CGI effects from The Mill, the Oscar-winning visual and special effects team behind Gladiator and Doctor Who.
US fans will get their chance to see season one of Merlin when it premieres on the NBC Sunday June 21 at 8pm (Merlin has replaced Kings in that timeslot).

I am so excited for the new series 2 of Merlin, I was loving series 1 and have been waiting all year for series 2, especially after the cliffhanger at the end of series 1, saying: Merlin, Will Return. I’m just so excited. I’ve heard that the first episode of the new series is called The Lady of the Lake. And also there is too be a troll in disguise as a woman somewhere in the series. The first series left such a good impression of Merlin, so I know that series will be excellent to, it could be as good as the first, which really is good, or I hope it will be even better, and I bet it will. The strongest of series 1 in my opinion has to be episode 4, The Poisoned Chalace, where Merlin gets poisoned by Nimeuh, and Arthur goes after the cure, fighting spiders, and following the light Merlin provided to him using magic. I hope that series 2 will bring an even better episode than that one. It has not yet been announced yet, but it seems as if Morgana is a sorcerer herself, and if she really is, I hope this is the series she finds out in. Maybe that will even be the finale of series 2, leaving a cliff hanger, and I really hope Merlin will then have a third series and more. I read in a magazine that their Merlin ideas wouldn’t stop, so thats a good sign of more series to come. I know Merlin should be starting in September, last year series 1 started on September 20th, so the first episode should be aired around that date.

Oh my god, its unbelievable, who thought Nimeuh was dead? Well she might be cuz its just a rumour, but the rumour is that Nimeuh is returning for series 2 of Merlin. Who else wants that to be true?

The series is great, and the cast is just perfect and i for one certainly hope that we have not seen the last of Nimeuh.

Wonderful series and great entertainment for all ages. I am 70 and my granddaughter is 6. We watch Merlin together.

Morgana? the badie? oh my god sophie I hope you are wrong. I for one would hate to see a character I have liked to become the new baddie. I prefer the rumour about Nimeuh returning to be as the villian, and it should be Morgana who kills her and saves Merlin’s life as Nimeuh’s about to kill him. Now that would be much better than Morgana becoming the new baddie.

I know its sooo exciting!!!! i love merlin. The directors keep coming up with soo many ideas for the show they could have loads of series and they wouldnt lose any viewers!

Episode 1 of Merlin is not called Lady in the Lake now. Now the episode will be titled: The Curse of Conelius Sigan.

I guessed Morgana was a sorceress, and Colin Morgan Irish, I never knew. I can’t wait for episode 2 next Saturday, why can’t it be now. The troll looks awesome, and I love the humour in this new series. I knew they would make a good job of the first episode but I didn’t expect it to be THAT good. It is now my favourite ever episode. I can’t believe they had the guy from Pirates of the Carribean playing the bad guy.

Just to say how much I am enjoying Merlin series 2. It’s superb entertainment and the two troll episodes were fantastic. Sarah Parish gave a remarkable performance as Catrina the troll. Merlin has all the elements of great TV ie humour, spectacle and interesting plots. Well done to the BBC and all concerned.

Episode 9 was soo sad i nearly cried i actually did poor merlin the love off his young life died, evil producers and script writers oh well as long as the public r happy =]………

Just a question about the strange words that Merlin speaks when he is performing magic. Are these words actually made up or are they part of some actual incantation from an ancient text ?.
I don’t think anyone on this blog will know but it’s an interesting question anyway.

Just heard of Merlin and read wonderful expectations of season 2. Can you tell me when this will be broadcasted on the BBC as I enjoy anything to do with Authurian legends, Merlin and the round table.. Fan-atic I guess.

In the US I have been trying to catch Season 2 on YouTube… a little frustrating to watch smoothly… but able just the same. I just read an article that NBC didn’t feel it had enough ratings here to play season 2. This is very upsetting as I feel it is one of the better thoughtful and artful series I’ve seen here in a while… there is so much crap on prime time television!
I truly hope we can access Merlin’s Series 3 somehow if we aren’t able to see it here.
Does anyone know when it is due to air in the UK? I visit the UK often… when should be my next visit?
