Brian Austin Green Will Play Metallo In 'Smallville'

The new season of Smallville just became seriously interesting with the announcement that Brian Austin Green has been cast as a villain.

According to TV Guide, Green will reportedly play the DC Comics villain Metallo.

For those that don’t know much about the character of Metallo, he’s a cyborg with a kryptonite-power source who repeatedly dishes out the pain to Superman and is one of the most popular villains in the DC Universe. Yes, instead of hunting Terminator’s in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Green will now play a Terminator in Smallville. Very cool.

He will play the villain and his alter ego John Corben in at least the first two episodes of season 9.  Of course, since his stand out performance in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, I’m seriously hoping he appears in additional episodes.

To add some additional ‘cool’ factor to the story, apparently Green was offered a full time gig on One Tree Hill but declined so that he could appear as Metallo in only two episodes of Smallville.

It’s a major bonus for Smallville that Green has been cast as Metallo, but for the record I’m still hoping that one day we’ll hear he’s also been cast as the Green Lantern.

In additional news for Smallville fans, the CW Network is apparently discussing ways to extend the life of the franchise beyond Smallville. According to a rumor report on Ausiello, the network is considering a new spin-off series.  That’s all we know at this early stage.

Season 9 of Smallville begins on Friday, September 25.
