Worthington, Arterton, Treadaway, Matheson & Cunningham

The Daily Mail has confirmed that Liam Cunningham (First Knight / The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor), Hans Matheson (Deathwatch / Sherlock Holmes) and Luke Treadaway (Dogging: A Love Story / Brothers of the Head) will all join Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation / Avatar) and Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace / RocknRolla / Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) in Louis Leterrier’s remake of Clash of the Titans.  Further, Liam Neeson has reportedly been cast as Zeus, but following the death of his wife Natasha Richardson, it is not yet known if he’ll still be up to participating.

Gemma Arterton has also confirmed with Empire Magazine that the script to the remake will be very different to the 1981 Harry Hamlin classic.  For a start, she plays the demi-goddess Io who is a character that did not feature in the original film but who will feature highly in the new film as the love interest for Sam Worthington’s Persus.

From Empire Magazine:

“My part is… the coolest part,” she laughed. “Io’s not in the original film. Perseus falls in love with her and then [CENSORED FOR TINY SPOILER]. It’s a really great part.”

“The script is very different,” she continued. “Obviously the story is the story, but it’s much more about Perseus’ mission, and how he deals with being the son of Zeus, and things like that, so it feels a little more about him, and about the issues around that.”

Clash of the Titans is scheduled for a March 26, 2010 release.
