One thing Neill Blomkamp’s excellent District 9 has been lacking is action figures and other cool related movie collectibles. So if you’ve been looking for something to add to your collection that’s District 9 flavored you’ve been largely out of luck. Until now at least.
Check out this pretty amazing one-of-a-kind custom District 9 “Prawn” Mecha Battle Suit Maquette.
No, it’s not an official release – it’s fan made and to get it you’re going to have to bid within 2 days of this post on eBay. I’m guessing you’ll also have a fight on your hands because already 3 bidders have pushed the price up to $510.
So if you’re going to spend that much money, what’s the quality like?
The eBay user selling it is Little Things, a community of inventors and artists that “love to create action figures.” That’s a good start for a little confidence.
The creator refers to the model as one of his best and states he put his “heart and soul into it.” He claims the model is 1/18th to scale (9″ tall) and was made as accurate as possible after he scoured the internet for multiple photos of the suit.
He’s also built it with multiple points of articulation to make it quite poseable, but adds it’s not a toy and can be broken if not treated properly, and that means serious collectors only need apply.
You’ve got to admit, this is a pretty cool custom Maquette.
