Dark Hero Studios Adapting ‘Deadworld’ To The Big Screen
Back in March I was pleased to hear about the formation of Dark Hero Studio’s, a company with the intention to create film, television, internet, graphic novel, comic book and video game projects in the action, sci-fi and horror genres.
Dark Hero Studio’s is the product of a teaming up between Tekken producer Benedict Carver and Watchmen co-writer David Hayter, and promises to be mor entrepreneurial than traditional studios.
Coinciding with the announcement of the studio formation was its first project, Demonology – a film about a high school student who experiences a series of horrors in an international school.
Now it seems the next project will be Deadworld, an adaptation of the comic of the same name that tells the story of a future apocalyptic Earth overrun by zombies. Deadworld will take place four months after the major zombie rising event at a time when only a few humans are left. The protagonist is King Zombie, a corpse who rides a Harley and who holds a grudge against the survivors who made him an outcast.
David Hayter is writing the screenplay.
“It’s very much about the design of the Deadworld and creating cool, frightening but not necessarily gory creatures,” Hayter said. “I am a huge fan of zombie mythology.”
The film will be produced by Dark Hero Studio’s in conjunction with Pandemonium’s Bill Mechanic (who produced Coraline). The writer and create of the comic, Gary Reed, will executive produce alongside Pandemonium’s Suzanne Warren. Funding for the flick is coming via Pandemonium and Framelight.
Deadworld is expected to be released in 2011.
