Back in July Nicolas Cage announced that Columbia Pictures were talking about taking Ghost Rider 2 in a different direction to the first movie.  Cage referred to the idea as a “reconceive” rather than a “reboot”, as he would still be in the lead role.

Now the possibility has emerged that David S. Goyer (Flash Forward/The Dark Knight/Batman Begins) may be the writer to spearhead that new direction.  According to a report on Variety, Goyer is in early talks to write the story and may base it on a script he wrote years ago.

Goyer, who was an executive producer on the first Ghost Rider, hasn’t officially signed on yet and although no further information is to hand, even this briefest of news is sure to appeal to Ghost Rider fans.

Ghost Rider 2 remains tentatively scheduled for release sometime in 2011.
