DC’s ‘Lobo’ Heading To The Big Screen?

Warner Bros. are looking at the possibility of developing a full feature film based on the DC Comic Lobo.
Don’t know anything about Lobo? We can sum up the character of Lobo reasonably quickly – he’s not that complicated. Lobo is the last of his race, a guy who killed all of his own kind because he, well, enjoyed killing them. Lobo is basically as tough as Superman (and in fact fought Superman), loves weapons, women, alcohol, and killing people indiscriminately. He has a pet Bulldog that’s really just as bad as he is and oh yeah, he’s a Bounty Hunter who travels through space hunting down the meanest of the mean for fun and money.
Those who have read (and enjoyed) the Lobo comics would know that a Lobo feature film would be sick (you can take that a few ways). However, our first thought is that for Lobo to be translated to the screen with justice, there’s no question it would have to be R-Rated. In the wake of Watchmen one would guess Warner Bros. would be a little touchy on investing into another R-Rated film. On the flipside, Watchmen has almost doubled its budget in worldwide takings, so you never know.
In any case, we don’t know a lot about the status of a potential Lobo movie. We only have a whiff of the possibility thanks to Latino Review who claim to have seen an early script which they’ve summarised via a pretty cool video synopsis. You can watch their video here.
For the record, we think with a couple of months of bulking up in the gym actor Jason Momoa (aka Ronon Dex in Stargate Atlantis) would play the perfect Lobo. In fact, we think Momoa is as perfect a Lobo as Hugh Jackman is Wolverine. Could we be so lucky?
Hopefully we’ll hear more on Lobo sooner rather than later.

With the success of Wolverine, Marvel is currently looking to do a spinoff with the Deadpool character who appeared in that movie. Hugh Jackman meanwhile has plenty to keep him busy as plans move forward for a Wolverine sequel and as he is set to star in another comic book related movie, the supernatural Ghostopolis. And, yet another comic book character may make the leap to the big screen as early talks are underway to do a movie based on DC’s popular anti-hero Lobo.
