Deadpool: The Merc with a Mouth will be back, but he'll still have a messed up face

When the X-Men Origins: Wolverine spinoff movie Deadpool was officially confirmed by 20th Century Fox, it came with the clarification that the film would “go back to the roots of the character”.  This led to speculation that the filmmakers were considering a prequel that would focus on Ryan Reynold’s character Wade Wilson.

Whilst promoting his latest film The Proposal, Ryan Reynolds appears to have confirmed to Hit Fix that the film will not be a prequel.

“Well, I’m intimately involved with it,” Reynolds said. “We’re just trying to break a story right now and figure out who the villain is going to be and all that stuff.  But, it’s going to be just like the comic books.  I’m gonna have a messed up face and you may see some flashbacks of Wade earlier in his life, but primarily what you see is what you get in the comics and that’s the goal.  And there is no better place to draw material from than the comics which are incredible.”

If Deadpool has a “messed up face” then it would seem the film will not be a prequel to the events that unfold in Wolverine, though how closely the film will follow on from Wolverine remains unclear. Since Deadpool gained a variety of new powers in Wolverine that were completely out of character with the comic, it would seem the writers may have their work cut out for them to convincingly wind those powers back.

Perhaps the saving grace from Wolverine may be the scene in which it is emphasized Deadpool’s metamorphosis was ended prematurely.

Either way, Deadpool fans will certainly be pleased to hear that the film will be drawing heavily from the comic.

The release date of Deadpool remains unknown though it is expected it won’t hit theaters until 2011/2012.

Well considering in the movie the female doctor said something about not having enough time to bond properly. I think the writers have a good base to work from to reverse it all.
