Details from the ‘Doctor Who’ Comic-Con Panel
The Doctor Who panel at the San Diego Comic-Con took place on Sunday July 26th. It was a very interesting panel although there were no special announcements and neither was a great deal revealed in terms of spoilers (there are a couple minor ones though).
Before the panel were introduced a previously available clip from the one-hour special ‘Planet of the Dead’ was aired.
Panel attendees were then introduced: showrunner Russell T Davies, David Tennant, Julie Gardner and Euros Lyn.
David Tennant arguably drew more of an enthusiastic roar from the crowd than anyone else at Comic-Con. If ever the actor had wondered how much he’s loved as The Doctor, his answer was right there in true rock-star defeaning glory.
Whilst standing in ovation fans screamed: “We love you!” and in reference to his looming final episodes: “Don’t go!”
Tennant humorously replied:
“I love you too, each one of you, but in a slightly different, individual way.”
The audience were treated to clips from David Tennant’s final episode.

What we learned including spoilers:
- there’s no movie in the works, but the message has been heard that fans want one
- the Master is definitely in David Tennant’s final episode
- Tennant hasn’t ruled out a return to the role in the future, he jokes: “But it’s the fiftieth anniversary in 2013, isn’t it?”
- Tennant laughed off the rumors he’s been as as The Hobbit
- Euros Lynn says Tennant is his favorite Doctor
- before his final Doctor Who episode, Tennant will star in a two-part episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures. The story will be titled ‘The Wedding Of Sarah Jane Smith’
- one of Tennant’s favorite moments playing The Doctor was a table read of ‘School Reunion’ with Elisabeth Sladen: “Suddenly, this voice from my childhood was calling me ‘Doctor.’ When the 8-year-old boy met the 35-year-old boy and was still being called The Doctor by Sarah Jane, that was quite special.”
Finally, there’s another video floating around in which David Tennant and John Barrowman give each other a kiss. It’s one of the better videos of Tennant at Comic-Con. Here it is and just listen to that crowd:
Finally, Tennant on Matt Smith:
“I’ve chatted to Matt a couple times and he’s very enthused and quite clearly going to be brilliant. Which is annoying. He’s such a talent, there is nobody in Britain who has worked with Matt who doesn’t rave about him. They have nothing but praise to lavish on him, so I don’t think he needs any advice from me really.”
The panel ends with a bonus clip from ‘The Waters of Mars’:
Synopsis of ‘The Waters of Mars’:
David Tennant returns as The Doctor in ‘The Waters Of Mars’, the second of four Doctor Who specials being screened on BBC One this year. He is joined by his cleverest and most strong-minded companion yet, Adelaide, played by acclaimed British actress Lindsay Duncan.
Adelaide is head of the Mars Base and doesn’t take kindly to an uninvited appearance by The Doctor. Peter O’Brien, star of Neighbours, Flying Doctors and Casualty, also guest stars as Ed, Adelaide’s second in command.
For what it’s worth, my opinion is David Tennant is one of the coolest dudes on the planet.
