Details from the ‘Lost’ San Diego Comic-Con Panel
The Lost panel at the San Diego Comic-Con has past and here’s what went down.
Attending the panel were show runners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. Actors included Jorge Garcia, Michael Emerson, Josh Holloway, Dominic Monaghan and Nestor Carbonell.
The audience were shown a few short video clips.
Spoiler Alert – most of what came out of the Lost San Diego Comic-Con panel is fairly cryptic which has led to a lot of speculation. However, the speculation may be on the money in which case the rest of this article is spoilery. Proceed if you don’t mind losing the surprise.
Specifically four videos were shown, two of which were fake ads, but all of which tease the idea that the Lost world of season six is no longer in sync with that of all previous seasons.
The first clip was an ad from Oceanic Airlines that proclaimed the airline had a 30 year perfect safety record and that the company was founded in 1979. Therefore no crash in Lost season 1.
The second clip was an ad for “Mr. Cluck’s Chicken” in which Hurley mentions his recent trip to Australia, suggesting that he arrived safely back in LA instead of crashing on the island.
The third was an ad for “America’s Most Wanted” featuring Kate on the wanted list for the murder of Ryan Milner, a plumber she killed by mistake when her plan to kill her stepfather went wrong.
The fourth video was a spoof of Michael Emerson auditioning to play Hurley in 2004 wearing a bandana and cargo shorts.
The clips indicate Daniel Faraday’s season 5 plan to change the timeline worked after all – but it seems if it did then things aren’t back to the way they were. Whatever the case, the clips allude to season six being set in an alternate reality.
Carlton Cuse said: “The time travel season is over. Flashforward season is over. You’re going to see something different.”
Perhaps the fact that season six is about an alternate reality is the reason why Lost producers have been claiming the final season will bring the show back to its first season – because it will be all new circumstances.
When Jorge Garcia asked Cuse and Lindelof if this possibility would mean the final season would be a kind of cheat on all the previous seasons they replied:
“Jorge, you’re just going to have to trust us.”
Other news to surface as a result of the panel:
- we’ll see many characters that we haven’t seen since season 1
- the final season will be a complete change of pace from every other season
- we’ll see more Faraday and Juliet (but in what capacity is unclear)
- we’ll also see a lot of the backstory of Richard Alpert (Nestor Carbonell)
- Sawyer will be destroyed by the tragedy of Juliet, pushing him back towards his original, more “salty” character.
The final season of Lost will span 18 hours and is scheduled to commence filming around the end of August 2009.

Thanks for the details!
I wish I could have gone to Comic-con!
I also wanted to point out that it’s DANIEL Faraday not David Faraday

Ahh..thanks for alerting me. Fixed! For the record, I know it’s Daniel, but when you write so much, sometimes your fingers type things your mind isn’t thinking lol. Then you proof read and you read what you think is there rather than what is there. Hahah. Anyway, appreciate the heads up to correct it.
