Want to know what came out of the San Diego Comic-Con related to Stargate Universe?

Attendees on the Friday July 24 panel included showrunners Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, Jamil Walker-Smith, Alaina Huffman, David Blue, Robert Carlyle, Ming-Na, Brian J. Smith, and Elyse Levesque.

Six minutes of footage was shown from the new series. As of now that footage has not been released to the public.

However, shortly after the Comic-Con panel the first full trailer was released online. You can watch it now:

The full panel video is below, but for the short and quick summary:

  • Wright referred to Stargate Universe as Season 16
  • Wright said you can watch Stargate Universe if you haven’t seen the other Stargate shows as it reintroduces the Stargate franchise with some introductory scenes
  • Wright said Richard Dean Anderson and Amanda Tapping would make guest appearances in the pilot
  • Cooper said fans shouldn’t fear Stargate Universe as the same creators are involved and the spirit of Stargate will still be in the new series
  • there’ll be tons of behind-the-scenes footage made available
  • the secret of the Stargate’s ninth chevron will be answered
  • Cooper says after 5 seasons and 100 episodes the end of Atlantis wasn’t premature, even if there are still more stories to be told
  • SGU will have a broad, continuing storyline but each episode will also be semi-serialized by nature of a heavy focus on character driven stories
  • Robert Carlyle became interested due to the character driven nature of the show
  • big things will happen very quickly
  • there are entire CG aliens in the first season
  • all of the SGU characters are both heroes and villains
  • the cast and crew add that the SGU set is like a major feature film set
  • a doctor will die…
