Iron Man 2 - San Diego Comic-Con Panel

The cast and director of Iron Man 2 have received a standing ovation after premiering footage from the Iron Man sequel at the San Diego Comic-Con.

The panel began with Director Jon Favreau showing dodgy footage before Robert Downey Jr. appeared exclaiming: “This is bullshit!” He then proceeded to introduce the real Iron Man 2 footage (after singing happy birthday to Jon Favreau’s son Max).

The footage included various scenes but those that gathered the most enthusiasm were the ones involving Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, the unveiling of the War Machine armor and Mickey Rourke’s wielding of electric lassos as the villain Whiplash.

Favreau mentioned Rourke’s commitment to the film by stating that the actor went inside a Russian prison, since that is what his character experienced, to which Downey replied: “I thought I was eccentric.”

Favreau confirmed they’ve wrapped production.

“I’ve never worked on a movie with this kind of scope,” Don Cheadle told the fans.

Scarlett Johansson confirmed Favreau’s assertion that she had done many of her own stunts in the film in her role as Black Widow: “You want to believe it,” she said.

At the end of the panel an audience member prompted everyone to pay respect to the original Iron Man source, leading to an appearance from Iron Man comic writer and artist Bob Layton.

If you want to read a shot by shot summary of the footage that was shown Peter Sciretta has posted a detailed run down over at Slashfilm.
