‘Doctor Who’ Special: The 11 Doctors?

The Ten Doctors

The Mirror are reporting that a new 15 minute Doctor Who special will air in November 2009 that brings all of the 11 incarnations of the Doctor together.  The short episode is supposedly a special for BBC1’s Children in Need.

The story will apparently follow David Tennant’s Doctor who will enlist the help of all the other Doctor’s to complete a mission.

From the Mirror:

Viewers will see the Time Lords regenerating and emerging one by one from the Tardis, each with their own quirky opening line.  David Tennant is the central character in the episode. He’s trying to hunt down some special time travel apparatus. What he’s actually lost has not yet been decided, but the idea is for all the other Doctors to club together to help David find it. The actors who are no longer with us, William, Jon and Patrick, will make special cameo appearances, with footage from original shows being flashed up on screen. It’s a really exciting project – and all for a good cause.

As exciting as this might sound to Doctor Who fans I suggest, at least for the moment, that the story be chalked up as rumor.  I find it difficult to believe that the BBC will debut Matt Smith’s version of the Doctor in a special such as this.  Given that the 11th Doctor isn’t due until the Spring of 2010, I’m highly skeptical.  However, that is not to say that there won’t be a Doctor Who special.  A BBC spokesperson apparently said this:

“Nothing has been finalised yet, although there is discussion of a Children in Need Doctor Who special. It is too early to say what.”
