Dominic West Wants to Rule Mars
Dominic West has joined the cast of Disney’s sci-fi epic John Carter of Mars.
West will play the pivotal chracter of Sab Than, prince of the Zodangans who believes he is entitled to rule Mars.
West recently played Jigsaw in Punisher: War Zone and Theron in Zack Snyder’s 300. He is perhaps best known as Det. James ‘Jimmy’ McNulty in the TV series The Wire. He will next be seen in the upcoming Neil Marshal directed action/aventure film Centurion.
Fellow English actors Samantha Morton (Minority Report) and Polly Walker (Patriot Games) have also just been cast. Morton will play Sola, the daughter of Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe), who must hide her softer side from her warmongering race. Walker will play Sarkoja, a merciless, tyrannical Thark.
All three join Taylor Kitsch (aka Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as the title role of John Carter and Lynn Collins (aka Silverfox in X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Mars. Thomas Haden Church also stars (and, as mentioned above, Willem Dafoe).
John Carter of Mars is a new epic sci-fi feature film being adapted from the Edgar Rice Burroughs that follows a Civil War veteran who, after being transported to Mars, finds himself partially super-powered thanks to the planet’s low gravity. There he becomes embroiled in a battle between the Martians and invading aliens.
Wall-E writer/director Andrew Stanton is the writer/director behind the project which has been likened to James Cameron’s Avatar in scope.
John Carter of Mars is expected in theaters sometime during 2012.
