Doubt Over Director Gore Verbinski’s ‘Bioshock’ Involvement
It’s only early days for Universal’s feature film adaptation of Bioshock but the film has already experienced its fair share of troubles.
Soon after the adaptation was announced Universal got cold feet when the film’s budget expanded to $160M. Production was put on pause so that a less budget heavy location could be found. Then we heard plans were underway to rework the script as a means to tone down some of its more costly scenes.
Now it seems director Gore Verbinski may have a question mark over his involvement too. Speaking with the Los Angeles Times just prior to the E3 conference Verbinski aired his doubts about the film and whether or not he will be in a position to helm it.
From the LA Times:
Verbinski tells the Times that it could probably get made, if it is shot in one of those foreign countries that offer a generous tax credit. And he’s not sure whether he wants to go overseas for the year-plus it would require to make it.
If Bioshock proceeds it will probably do so in either Australia or the UK, although don’t hold your breath just yet. Both the Australian dollar and the UK pound have seen significant gains of late. The more these currencies strengthen, the less likely Bioshock’s future may be.
Still, we’ll keep hoping for some good news. Ever since the rumor went live that Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller may be in the running to star in the film, how could we not?
