Escape from the Deep

Following his highly anticipated feature film debut Moon (starring Sam Rockwell), director Duncan Jones’ next project will be a submarine survival film entitled Escape From The Deep.

Escape from the Deep is based upon the novel of the same name by British author Alex Kershaw.  Kershaw will also adapt the screenplay.

The film depicts the story of the legendary World War 2 US Navy submarine Tang that sank after a torpedo malfunction, leaving the crew stranded on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Struggling to survive and faced with drowning, the story will follow the men at they attempt to make it out alive and swim 180 feet to the surface without succumbing to the bends.

Jones commented that Kershaw’s book was a “powerful story that will come alive on the big screen” and that he hopes to create “a tense action movie.”

Why are we reporting on a movie that is neither sci-fi nor fantasy related in any way? Because we’ve previously posted that Jones had planned to make a Blade Runner style sci-fi film as his next project – now it seems we’ll have to wait for that.
