Terminator Salvation director McG is prepping his next blockbuster feature film – an adaptation of Jules Verne’s 139 year old novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.

“There’s a great story there,” McG adds.  “I love the anti-hero of Captain Nemo – and I like Jules Verne.”

Verne’s story tells the story of a crew aboard a naval ship sent to track down and destroy a sea monster.  Whilst battling the monster they are thrown overboard, only to find that the sea monster is actually a metal machine.  Once aboard they learn it is a submarine named the Nautilus, and it is captained by the outlaw Nemo.

UPDATE:  The Rock hasn’t been cast in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.  Click here for that story.

Now we’re hearing speculation that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson may have been cast as Captain Nemo.

Whilst his actual role in the movie is at this stage speculation, it would appear his casting in the movie would seem anything but.  The Rock’s name is listed as the only cast member attached to the flick in Production Weekly Issue 659 – dated for release this Thursday May 7.

We can only presume an official announcement of his casting will be made this week.

‘The Rock’ as Captain Nemo?  Hell yeah.
