‘Flash Forward’ Interactive Print Ad Viral Marketing Campaign
ABC has started printing coded ads in a new viral campaign designed to raise even more interest in the soon to be released Flash Forward.
When users hold the black-and-white ads up to a webcam, the picture on their computer screen turns into a 3-D ad for the show. In other words, its another marketing campaign that uses augmented reality.
“It appears to play right out of the ad,” said Darren Schillace, ABC Entertainment advertising/marketing VP. “Once you watch all the videos, it’s a 10-minute experience. In the normal world, you’d never spend 10 minutes with a print ad.”
The ads will appear in Wired Magazine, Popular Mechanics and several gaming mags.
“We think it’s fun and savvy enough for the group of fanboys that are out there,” Schillace said.
You’d think marketing “experts” would know not to use the term “fanboys” if they want to win over potential fans, especially for a series that no one has actually seen yet…
Flash Forward will premiere on Thursday, September 24 at 8pm ET.
