Fox Cancels Sarah Connor And Makes No Apologies

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

“[Sarah Connor] has completed its run,” Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said at a press conference to officially confirm the cancellation of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

I think it had a nice little run. It was a good show,” he added.

Not good enough apparently.

Reilly explained to the press that a part of the issue was that they saw Terminator’s ratings tailing off which of course is only true for the first half of season two because in the latter half of the season TSCC’s ratings were on the rise.   In contrast Dollhouse’s ratings were sliding down rapidly in an avalance of consistent viewer abandonment.

At first he says that it wasn’t “an either/or [Dollhouse]“ decision only to effectively contradict himself later by saying, “…ultimately we made the bet on Dollhouse for the nightso that’s it for Terminator.”

A bet on one show IS an either/or decision over another.

But if you think that wasn’t enough of a kick in the teeth for loyal fans who have stuck by the series for two years, he adds:  “We make no apologies. We gave it a lot of support and some consistent scheduling. We tried and thought it was time to move on.”

We make no apologies?  Consistent scheduling?  Prior to moving TSCC to the Friday death slot the series was achieving an average of 5-6 million viewers.  Upon Fox rescheduling to Friday nights that dropped by roughly 1.5 million viewers.  There is simply no way Fox can credit themselves with offering TSCC good scheduling.

When all is said and done it is the “we make no apologies” statement that takes the cake.   It is uncalled for, not only to those (like us) who have invested time and energy watching the series, writing about the series, promoting it freely for Fox, and ultimately campaigning for its renewal, but also to the cast and crew who have done a sterling job.

Since Dollhouse was a bet over Terminator, we’ll take that bet and raise you a number of once dedicated but now utterly lost viewers.

consistant scheduling my ass! lets take a show that does awesome mondays and move it to friday, also known as the “kiss of death”, people will still watch! oh, wait they didnt? lets cancel it!

  2. Darren said:

Yes it’s nonsense. Would they have cancelled it if the viewer numbers were 5M+? The answer is no. Well that’s the numbers it was getting before the move.

im so pissed right now i cant put my thoughts into words, are these idiots totally brain dead or something? the show clearly had better ratings than dollhouse yet they keep the one with the lower ratings. i wont be over this travesty any time soon

I think they will lose that bet because I for one. Will stop watching dollhouse. Actually, I will boycott fox altogether. I think dollhouse will definitely fail without TSSC as I think most of the core Dollhouse viewers are like me: terminator fans first and foremost!

I’m surprised just how mad I am about the cancellation of this fantastic, intelligent show.

Fox did not support this show. Scheduling & promotion were a joke. They’d obviously made the call to cancel a long time ago.

Worst of all though is Fox’s utter lack of respect for the crew and the fans: “we make no apologies”. Actually, you do owe us an apology. Yes, it’s Fox’s call to renew or cancel, but at least have the decency to acknowlege the fans and apologise for leaving us with an unfinished story after two years of investment.

meanwhile, we get to watch “So you think you can dance” 3 hours a week… thanks fox. i really hate watching quality drama, not to mention amazing action on a tv series. you have saved us from the terror that is quality programming and delivered us to the brainwashed masses huddled around ‘idol’ and ‘SYTYCD’.

…Boy, this begs the question of who Joss Whedon is blowing at Fox. Dollhouse was total crap, and while Sarah Connor wasn’t that great, it was better than Dollhouse. There’s something going on here that we don’t have all the facts on, and you can bet your bottom dollar it’s got something to do with bending over.

Wow, the only reason I watched Dollhouse is because it was on after TSCC. Very disappointing move. I will be surprised if Dollhouse makes it through a full season.

    Keith, I’m like you.

I’ll also take that bet with Fox and raise Fox my vow to never again watch Dollhouse. Actually I’m only going to watch Fringe on Hulu from now on and NEVER tune into Fox again. Once bitten, twice shy, three times…four..oh whatever. I’m done with investing my time in Fox shows.

I also just cancelled an order for the DVD’s. No way am I spending money on crap from Fox that goes nowhere.

FFS. Dullhouse is a waste of time, why would u? What’s up against Dullhouse on the other channels? Whatever it is, I’ll watch that. Maybe migrate to Hulu too. Do Fox make $$$ from Hulu? If so, I’m tuning out of Fox shows on Hulu. Can’t be frakk’d with Fox shows no more.

Ok I’ll join this party and scratch Dollhouse from my list. And as far as no apologies go, to that, I say Reilly can get fox’d.

Last but not least,WE FOR SURE DESERVE A MODICUM OF RESPECT, FOX, GO-TO-HELL!! I’ll never watched your shows again, I’m done, so even for Dollhouse, you’re already a loser, with all these great TSCC fans around!!! :-8) I’m still so PISSED OFF, UNBELIEVABLE & GROSS!!!!
Ok, now I’m chilling down a bit, to give you an advice, go to write to the famous “miracles-can-happen” channel, to try desperately to save at least the PROPER ENDING we need, in a dvd-2hours-film, like Firefly already did: feedback@scifi.com
