Jasika Nicole is FBI Agent Astrid Farnsworth in 'Fringe'
UGO have posted an interview with Jasika Nicole, the talented actress who plays the even more talented FBI Agent Astrid Farnsworth in J.J. Abrams’ Fringe.
In the interview Nicole says that she is largely kept in the dark episode to episode about her own backstory, but that as with all things Fringe there is a reason for it, everything is intentional, and that in due course FBI Agent Farnsworth may actually be involved in something big.

UGO: I love your character because she’s kind of been thrown into this situation and all this crazy stuff is going on. Are we going to be finding out more about Astrid’s backstory or is this really where her story begins?
Jasika: That’s a great question and I don’t have a definitive answer for it. That has been a really hard process for all of us on this show. We don’t know what the general over-arc is for the show. We go from episode to episode and it was really funny because each time we’d get an episode and find out that Astrid had a background in something different like linguistics or computer science or something like that. They were just adding all this stuff which is kind of cool because who doesn’t want to play a really brilliant woman on TV. But at the same time I didn’t really have anything to base it on, I didn’t know where she came from or why she was into all this stuff. And so when we were at New York Comic-Con Jeff Pinkner said that everything that has happened on the show is intentional and there’s a reason it has taken so long for us to find out about her. My best guess is that she’s gonna be involved in something big. The other thing with Fringe is that you don’t get it all out on the table right away so I think for a lot of people it makes them want to come back to get more answers. The relationships with the people on the show and this mammoth company taking over the world is really intriguing and they’re putting it in piece by piece.
UGO: I’m hoping we get that level of insight into Astrid’s character as well
Jasika: Yes, there’s a reason she’s here. There are all these brilliant, amazing people and they’re not just gonna put anybody who got out of Quantico into this situation. Besides the fact that she’s smart and has a background in like, everything. There’s something that she’s able to add and I think it comes in spurts, she’s smart and really quick but there’s something there and I’m just waiting to find out what it is.
