HBO’s Upcoming Series ‘Game of Thrones’: 10 Minutes Peep

Yesterday HBO aired a ten minute behind-the-scenes trailer for the upcoming Game of Thrones fantasy series , based on George R.R. Martin‘s bestseller A Song of Fire and Ice, that you are welcome to watch after a jump! Also have a read of some details concerning the new show’s plot and peculiarities.
The show got is title after the first book in the fantasy novel series. There are seven books in total that are planned for release, and each of them might be turned into a full TV-series season. The novels tell the story of the noble Stark family “caught up in high court intrigue when patriarch Eddard (Sean Bean) becomes the king’s new right-hand man.” The action is set in Westeros – a mystical country.
The show’s script writer David Benioff says: “High fantasy has never been done on TV before and if anybody can do it, it’s HBO. They’ve taken tired genres and reinvented them — mobsters in The Sopranos and Westerns with Deadwood.”
The fantasy genre has not received particular attention on the part of the TV channels, which might seem weird because the popularity of such genres as sci-fi and supernatural have been scirocketing among the audience. As for the Game of Thrones, the producers say that the focus has been shifted from visual effects onto the characters, which allows us to presume everything will work well. However, we still have to see when the show premieres in spring 2011.
The series is directed by Thomas McCarthy, and is starring D.B. Weiss. Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Iain Glen, Lena Headey.
