Heroes Gets the Unofficial Green-Light for Season 4
Heroes looking good for Season 4
It’s not official, but it’s about as good as. According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC’s Entertainment President, Angela Bromstad, has confirmed that the network intends to order 18-20 episodes for a new season of Heroes.
Speculation has been rampant that the series might find itself on the chopping block in consideration of the economic climate combined with its recent ratings decline. Yet Heroes remains tied as the network’s top-rated series (with The Office) among adults 18-49.
Two reasons were given as to why NBC plan to renew Heroes. The first is that there are plans under consideration to launch NBC’s new sci-fi series, Day One, in the Heroes Monday night time-block so that both shows can feed off each other. Day One is a Jericho type tale of post-apocalyptic survival and NBC consider it’s premiere a big event. The second is Heroes has a strong global fan base, even in China and Russia, and NBC feel that this global reach still has legs.
What is interesting is that the NBC may not only be considering a fourth season, but perhaps are already considering a fifth. From the Hollywood Reporter:
The network has privately discussed setting a series end date for “Heroes,” which would followed the creative model used with critical success by ABC’s “Lost,” Sci Fi’s “Battlestar Galactica” and FX’s “The Shield.” But even if NBC ever made such a move, Bromstad said, they wouldn’t want to make next season the conclusion.
Personally, I don’t see Heroes as having a definitive story-line -- it is more conducive to definitive story-lines. However, such an approach to the series could see a radical revamp in the way the writers approach the series storyline. Given it’s present direction, this can only be a good thing.
All in all, and recognizing that nothing about this news is 100% official just yet, it’s still promising news for Heroes fans.
