Ian McKellen Hasn’t Seen the ‘X-Men Origins: Magneto’ Script
Six months ago X-Men Origins: Wolverine producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed Fox had a “great script” for X-Men Origins: Magneto.
The script comes from David S. Goyer, known for his work on ABC’s new hit Flash Forward, Batman Begins and of course The Dark Knight to name just a few. Six weeks ago Goyer gave us hints that X-Men Origins: Magneto would move forward in 2010.
Inch by inch Magneto has been moving closer, but through all the talk of a Magneto film fans have quietly expected some kind of involvement from the actor who played Magneto in all three X-Men films, Ian McKellen.
Although X-Men Origins: Magneto is a prequel, rumor has it the script includes an appearance by an older Magneto at the beginning and end of the film. If true, it would seem unlikely that McKellen wouldn’t appear.
Yet, if he does, his part will be minor at best, especially now that we know the film is so close to production and yet McKellen hasn’t even been shown a script.
Here’s what McKellen had to say about it to Empire Mag:
“There’s meant to be a Magneto script floating around, but I’ve not read it, so I suspect it wouldn’t involve me,” he said. “I think it would be about the younger Magneto, and the most I could hope for would be to top and tail that. They can’t have someone whose face is as lined as mine any longer!”
Don’t worry about those lines, these days we have CGI. Remember Patrick Stewart’s de-aged Professer Xavier in X-Men Origins: Wolverine?
“Ooh, he was very pleased with himself that he was going in to be in Wolverine,” McKellen told Empire.
