‘inFAMOUS’ Video Game Headed to the Big Screen
Sony Pictures is working on developing a feature film based on their sister company’s (Sony Computer Entertainment) Playstation 3 game inFAMOUS.
inFAMOUS follows a bike messenger by the name of Cole MacGrath who develops super powers after surviving an explosion that destroys blocks of Empire City. In the game players can use MacGrath’s super powers for good or evil, and depending on their choices the devastated city’s people will respond to him in positive or negative ways.
Screenwriter Sheldon Turner will write the action movie script. Turner’s screen credit includes The Longest Yard and Up in the Air.
“What excited me most about the game was it was the first of which I’ve come across that had a big idea and a character arc,” Turner said. “It is, I believe, the future of gaming. The game, while big and fun, is at its core a love ballad to the underachiever, which is what our hero, Cole McGrath, is.”
The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man producers Avi Arad and Ari Arad will produce.
A prequel comic book and soundtrack to the game have also been released. Turner is writing the comic book which will be titled Warrior and published by Top-Cow.
I’m guessing the new film might not have its title set in concrete, given that in 2010 Greenway Entertainment aim to release another film titled Infamous. Same name titles are not uncommon but they are confusing so we’ll see how Sony handle it as more news on the video game adaptation develops.
