Heavy Metal

Kevin Eastman’s Heavy Metal is a new feature film anthology comprised of a series of animated shorts inspired by the 1981 cult-film of the same name. The shorts cover a range genres includng sci-fi, fantasy and horror.

The list of directors associated with each short is impressive to say the least and includes David Fincher (Fight Club / The Game / The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead / 300 / Watchmen) and Gore Verbinski (The Ring / Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy). Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda) and Jack Black (King Kong / Tropic Thunder) are also going to do a comedy segment for the film.

The latest news comes from Film School Rejects who have broken the news that James Cameron (Aliens / Titanic / the upcoming Avatar) has been added to the list as both a director of a segment and as a co-executive producer of the film with David Fincher.

As impressive as the talent pool behind Heavy Metal already is, apparently there’s more to come.  To quote Kevin Eastman:

“Three other directors have agreed but we haven’t signed them, but they’re equally as jaw-dropping. So we’re on cloud nine to be working with such an amazing amount of talent.”

With such a list of A-Grade directors and producers on board and with more on the way, it would most certainly be an understatement to refer to this film as anything other than highly anticipated.

Heavy Metal will be released in 2010.
