Barbarella? Jessica Alba, Sienna Miller, Katherine Heigl, Scarlett Johansson

First it was Robert Rodriguez (Sin City / From Dusk Til Dawn) , then it was Robert Luketic (Monster In Law / Legally Blonde), now I’m hearing John Carpenter (Ghosts of Mars / The Thing / They Live) is set to direct the remake of the 1968 erotic sci-fi classic Barbarella.

From The Sun:

A film insider said: “The script is underway and John Carpenter is set to direct so it’s all about finding the new Barbarella.”

The Sun also reports three actresses are supposedly in the running for the role of Barbarella that was made so famous by Jane Fonda:  Sienna Miller, Jessica Alba, and Katherine Heigl.

The insider continues: “This will be a huge movie and with Barbarella such a strong female character, half the leading ladies in Hollywood will want this role. Sienna, Jessica and Katherine are probably top of the list but others have not been ruled out. Whoever gets it is going to have to look super-hot in not very much clothing!”

The Hollywood Reporter have been running a poll and of the three named by The Sun only one is featured, namely Jessica Alba.  She’s currently rated fourth as a fan preference.  Scarlett Johansson is number one.

It’s all speculation though as nothing official has been announced about who will direct or who will star.

The only official details to hand are that the script is in the hands of an unknown writer by the name of Joe Gazzam and that the remake will be produced by the same producer of the original film,  Dino De Laurentiis, along with his wife, Martha De Laurentiis.

It’s also too early for a release date.
