Josh Hartnett (30 Days of Night / Black Hawk Down) has signed on to star in Gunslinger, a sci-fi western to be directed by Chris Nahon (Blood: The Last Vampire).

Hartnett will play a man who, with his brother, sets out upon the snowy wastelands of a post apocalyptic America to kill the gang who killed their parents.

“This story takes a unique and startling look at what might happen when the lawlessness of the Old West returns … but with better weapons,” producer Mark Williams said.

Oddly, the story sounds very similar to Graphics Illusions Studios sci-fi western Marshal which follows a character who, also bearing futuristic weapons, sets out to get revenge upon a gang for killing his father. Although Marshal takes place on an Earth colony set on another planet, it too unfolds in a lawless old west setting.

Gunslinger should also not be confused with The Gunslinger, another revenge movie in development and set for release in 2011.  The Gunslinger is an actual western and follows a Ranger out to get revenge for the death of his brother.

Gunslinger will be produced by a collaboration between Mark Williams and 2B Pictures, a UK based indie filmmaker.

Filming on Gunslinger is set to begin in Canada early next year.

Hmmm… I’m the creator and writer of MARSHAL, and boy are my ears perked up. The tag line used in that movie is nearly identical to what I used 7 years ago.
