Low Ratings For ‘Virtuality’ Seal Its Fate
This will probably be the last article I’ll need to write on Virtuality.
The two-hour premiere of Ron Moore’s sci-fi pilot drew only 1.8 million viewers to rank it as the lowest-rated program on a major broadcast network on Friday night.
With Virtuality completely dependent on high ratings to turn around Fox’s decision not to green-light the series, it would seem to be a given that any glimmer of hope there may have been for a series is now gone.
To my mind that is sad as the series had enormous potential and was received well by the majority of industry reviewers.

That is unfortunate. I just watched Virtuality online and it’s good. It took a little while to get going but by the end I wanted more.

The pilot was quite good and had a lot of potential.
Fox, being Fox, killed it by putting it in a graveyard timeslot in the summer with no publicity. The only reason I heard about it was from reading a review on Salon.com.
No wonder network TV is dying — it’s run by stupid bean counters in suits with no imagination.
And I’m not even a sci-fi fan.

Everyone seems to see the cancelling as a foregone conclusion but I guess it’s better than getting our hopes up. I don’t know why Fox bothers spending the cash on nieche shows if they are not prepared to back them and give them a chance to grow.

To be honest I would rather have my hopes up. Recently I heard there was a slim possibility the series could be picked up by another network, although I don’t know much about what has transpired there. Either way, the ratings it received will need a severe bolster by DVR numbers for a series to be remotely considered.
Of course it’s never over to a certain sized lady sings…we can always hope until we hear something official to the contrary.

That certain sized lady may not have sung yet, but the music for the song has already started (pity the song sucks).

Face it folks, the Fat Lady has sung, and Virtuality is DOA.
The dismal ratings numbers have sealed Virtuality’s fate.
Add to that the possibility of a lawsuit from Joe Haldeman, it’s unlikely any other Studio or Network will do anything with it, other than to avoid it like a toxic spill
