Mastodon Scoring ‘Jonah Hex’ With John Powell?
Although it hasn’t been officially announced, it seems award winning music composer John Powell (Hancock / Jumper / X-Men: The Last Stand) is working with famed heavy metal band Mastodon on the score to director Jimmy Hayward’s upcoming supernatural western, Jonah Hex.
The news comes via Mastodon’s Myspace blog where they posted:
Mastodon is currently working on JONAH HEX with composer John Powell and the movie’s director, Jimmy Hayward on the Score to JONAH HEX.
It is not known whether John Powell is scoring the film and Mastodon are contributing to the score, or vice versa. AICN have posted an article indicating that Mastodon are actually scoring the film and when the band was asked what the score was like they responded: “Needless to say, pretty heavy!”
Mastodon’s post also advises that the movie, originally slated for release in the US on August 6, 2010, will now be released June 18, 2010.
Jonah Hex, based on the DC Comic of the same name, is directed by Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!) and stars Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex and Megan Fox as Leila, although word is Megan Fox’s part in the film is minor. Additional cast include Will Arnett and John Malkovich.
The film follows Jonah Hex, a severely scarred bounty hunter back in the Wild West who tries to stop a voodoo practitioner from raising an army of the undead.
Jonah Hex will be released in theaters:
USA – June 18, 2010
Australia – August 12, 2010
