Michael Emerson Identifies Lost’s Four Toed Statue
** Minor spoilers below.**
According to Lost Executive Producer Damon Lindelof, Lost’s two-hour finale on May 13 will finally reveal the face of the mythical four-toed statue.
“You’ve seen its foot. You’ve seen its back,” says exec producer Damon Lindelof.
On May 13, you’ll see it’s front.
However if you can’t wait that long, Michael Emerson (aka Benjamin Linus) has reinforced what many Lost addicts have speculated for a long time – that the statue is that of the three fingered, pregnant hippopotamus headed Egyptian Goddess Taweret.
“She’s Taweret, the goddess of childbirth,” Emerson says. “That dovetails in pretty well with our themes, wouldn’t you say?”
In Egyptian mythology Taweret was assimilated into the identity of Mut, the great-creator goddess. Interestingly, the Vulture and the Ankh are two symbols associated to the creator-goddess Mut and these symbols appear frequently in Lost (you can take a look at this page on Lostpedia to see for yourself).
Is this a hint that the story of Lost is actually about the creation of life itself? It may well be.

It was of a goddess? Michael Emerson was actually the one who confirmed it before the finale ( Michael Emerson Identifies Lost’s Four Toed Statue ). Plus, now that we’ve seen the full side angle of the statue, I think it’s safe to confirm his…

The statue shown in the last picture above does not look like the same statue seen on the show. Even from the back, you can tell it’s not the same, especially from the ears. What’s the deal with that?

THANKYOU DAWN, FOR HAVING THE COURAGE TO QUESTION. IT IS NOT THE SAME STATUE. IF YOU PLAY THE SCENE IN AB ATERNO BEFORE THE SHIPWRECK AND SLOW MOTION OR FRAME BY FRAME YOU WILL SEE THAT THE STATUE THAT THE BLACK ROCK HIT WAS OF SET/SETH, A TOTALLY DIFFERENT EGYPTIAN GOD. TO BEGIN WITH, HE IS MALE, WEARS AN EGYPTIAN KILT, IS SLIM AND HAS ABS UNLIKE TAWERET WITH HER PENDULOUS BREAST AND BELLY. HE ALSO HAS THE HEAD OF A CAMEL/GIRAFFE/ANTEATER/OKAPI , A COMPILATION OF ANIMALS. HE WEARS A HEADPIECE, CARRIES AN ANKH. HE IS THE GOD OF WINDS,LIGHTNING, STORMS,DARKNESS,EVIL,WAR,FOREIGN LANDS,AND CHAOS, (THINGS THE ISLAND HAS CERTAINLY SEEN A LOT OF.) “HE BEFORE WHOM THE SKY SHAKES”. HE ALSO KILLED HIS BROTHER,OSIRIS,THE GOD OF THE AFTERLIFE, AND DROWNED HIM. I DON’T KNOW IF THE ART DEPARTMENT DIDN’T DO IT’S RESEARCH (WOULD ALSO EXPLAIN THE FOUR TOES) OR IF THE PRODUCERS HAVE INTENTIONALLY PLAYED WITH US ON THIS, AS THEY HAVE ON SO MUCH ELSE. I ONLY KNOW THAT AS A STUDENT OF EGYPTOLOGY AND ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS I KNOW THAT THE STATUE ON THE BEACH (BEFORE IT WAS DEMOLISHED IN THE SHIPWRECK, IS NOT TAWERET. IT IS SET/ SETH.
