Neill Blomkamp Talks ‘District 9′ Sequel

District 9 hasn’t hit the theaters yet but in an interview with SCI FI Wire director Neill Blomkamp has admitted he’d happily make a sequel.

“If this film is successful, if audiences want another, whatever, District 10, I would love to do it,” Blomkamp said. “It’s a very personal film, and it’s a universe and a place that I find incredibly creative. I’d love to go back to that universe.”

Judging by the early buzz that the film generated at the San Diego Comic-Con, I’m guessing District 10 is virtually a given.

District 9 will hit theaters:
14 August 2009 – USA
13 August 2009 – Australia

You must have a sequel, “The Rescue”. I say have the aliens trash the Earth too, at least all the corrupted governments (which is all of them) and show the remaining humans how to live in peace. At the least have them capture the scientists who were experimenting on them and do the the same to them, no anaesthesia either, eye for an eye.

For God’s sake, make a sequel and step on it!!! 3 years, he promised. Only I dont want to wait 3 years to watch it lol.

Although i think District 9 is the best movie of the year, I do NOT want a sequel. The movie is awesome the way it is, a sequel would only be “the mighty ducks 2″.

Please, it is a masterpiece. Don’t fix what is not broken.

I just saw District 9 and I love this movie. There has to be a sequal. It’s all layed out for one so let’s have one. It’s a masterpiece that hasn’t been completed yet. Christopher has to come back in 3 years he promised. The creativeness of the prawns technology is awesome. Reminds me of a video game. I would love an alien revolution that over throws all corupt goverments and have peaceful humans govern this whole world as a whole. Watch this movie!!!!!!! It totally got me!

erin: Don’t fix what is not broken…? A sequel is not fixing anything from the original, yet a second part to the story.

yeah, i agree, blomkamp HAS to make a sequel. and i think too, that when christopher johnson returns after 3 years, there needs to be a conflict between prawns and MNU, if what wikus’ understudy guy thomas(?) hasnt already cause MNU to collapse. D9 is by far the best sci-fi movie ive ever seen, and possibly the best movie ive seen period. its so nice to see an original idea executed beautifully, since the past 4 years has been nothing but crap movies. its a movie that causes you to think about it long after you saw it, and i have nothing but kudos for peter and neill. its a shame that jackson isnt able to to the hobbit, or blomkamp to do halo, because after i saw D9, im willing to give ANY movie either of them make, or collaberate on together a chance.

I think the sequel should go into why they were left/taken to earth, the story behind the prawns needs to be told- not just what happens three years in the future. Obviously they have been subject to degregation to act so randomly but they still show compassion for each other- so whats their story! That’s what I want to know-lol!

i think we can all agree that D-9 kicked some serious arse. What would be sick is if they incorporated the technology that james cameron has used into avatar to make the sequel. I know that peter jackson pretty much owns most of it and i dont think he would mind using it towards a project as pimpin’ as this :D

I’d like to see a sequel as long as Hollyweird executives don’t get involved and ruin it. I can just see it now: ‘no no no! It has to be more complex! The CGI can be better! Throw more money at it! Bring big names in! This is a major money maker, let’s do it bigger and better!’ Yuk. I think that’s why sequels to really good movies are usually awful. It goes from being an engaging, unique story to being all about the bottom line. If Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp are able to retain creative control, I’d love to see a sequel.

i loved this film District 9, its original and makes us look at the world we live in now.
id love to see a sequel or prequel, i cant understand why people think the Aliens should come back and turn us to dust, after all if they mastered space travel surely they would have a different responce.
Sure they might be pissed off, but in the movie we didnt kill all of them so why should they respond in a stupid violent manner, thats our job to be afraid of what we dont understand.
