Details from the ‘Flash Forward’ Comic-Con Panel
The Flash Forward panel at the San Diego Comic-Con was held yesterday and here’s what you missed if you weren’t there.
Creators David S. Goyer, Brannon Braya and Marc Guggenheim attended together with cast members Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Courtney B. Vance, and Christine Woods. Dominic Monaghan was a surprise guest at the end.
The audience was treated to a sneak preview that consisted of roughly half of the pilot and a series of clips from the show.
We learn:
- the forward flashes will only go as far as April 29, 2010, but the creators state there is a plan beyond that date
- the final episode of the first season will take place April 30, 2010 and will focus on an aftermath story
- Dominic Monaghan and Gabrielle Union’s casting is official. Read about that here.
- Monaghans character, Simon, is a “game changer” who, according to Goyer, “f***s up a lot of things.”
- Robert J. Sawyer, who wrote the novel the series is based upon, has approved the pilot and will write at least one Season 1 episode
- 10 of the Season 1 episodes have already been written
- there’s a Kangaroo in the first 15 minutes and another 5 or 6 things are hidden in the first two acts (the Kangaroo will also be back, for some reason)
- episode 7 is a game changer
- 3 different countries are featured in the first 3 episodes
David Goyer also had something to say about those constant comparisons to Lost.
“Nothing is ever going to be the new Lost. I love Lost. I’ve seen every single episode,” he said. “Lost is this genre-breaking show that was its own thing, unique and daring and challenging. I thought, if they’re courageous enough to put that on the air, they’ll be courageous enough to put ‘FlashForward’ on the air.”
He probably won’t have to worry about that specific comparison now though, because since Comic-Con the series is now also being referred to as Lost meets 24 meets The Nine.
