‘Supernatural’ Season 5 to End With a Bang
I’ve had numerous requests to add Supernatural to the line up of shows that I write about and so I’ve decided it’s time.
Unfortunately the first article I’ve got for you is the news that the show’s days are numbered.
Supernatural is about to begin airing its fifth season and it seems creator Eric Kripke intends it to be the last.
“I did set out [to] tell a five-season storyline,” Kripke says. “Quite frankly, I never expected [the show] to make it to five years. But now that we’re in our fifth year, I have every intention of ending the story with a bang and not drawing it out or watering it down.”
Although Kripke states he intends the fifth season to be the last, he also throws in a couple of maybes. The first one is that a there could be a possible spinoff series, and the second is that there could, possibly, be a sixth season.
“That having been said,” Kripke adds, “I’m looking at this season as the last chapter in this particular story. That doesn’t mean there can’t be a new story. Buffy did it. The X-Files did it. You close a chapter on a big mythology storyline and then you begin a new one. One of the things I like about this show is we don’t draw out mysteries endlessly. We’ll answer a bunch of questions this season and then pose some new ones next season.”
There are however no deals in place for a sixth seasons, and there’s nothing official on the idea of a spinoff series.

Sorry Bob, the stars are locked into six season contracts but the studio hasn’t green lit the sixth season. Those contracts only apply if a sixth season is green-lit by the studio. Until they do that, Supernatural has no sixth season.
That being said, with the recent ratings bonanza fueled by the combination of The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural, I’d be guessing the CW Network will be very keen to keep those ratings coming in…

I hope that Kripke gets his wish and ends the show with S5. Don’t get me wrong, I *love* Supernatural, but as a rule I’d much rather see a showrunner get their way than an executive, because the showrunner is thinking about quality rather than cash.

Supernatural is one of the best shows on TV here in the UK or in the US. It is because of the whole team that this show is so good. If Supernatural does go for a 6th season then I would love it to do so on a new season by season story so that when it does end it is not a disserpointment like so many US shows, for example Life was axed just as it was getting great plus many others. I would not like to see a great show like Supernatural end in this way.
