Orion’s Belt Browser Game: Free Tactical MMO

Orions Belt

Orion’s Belt is a free online browser based sci-fi strategy game that is gaining a lot of attention – it’s listed by a number of game reviewers as being one of the top 10 online MMO’s.

The game is turn based and played out on a variant of the chess board.

Players begin by choosing one of three races: Utopians, Renegades and Levyr. Each race has its own game play with a focus on a specific profession.  Players can choose the profession of Pirate, Bounty Hunter, Trader, Colonizer or Gladiator.

The aim is to advance across the universe.  To begin with you start in a private zone with just five planets.  No one can attack you in the private zone, allowing you to learn the ropes.  Once you’re ready you can wormhole it to the “hot zone” where all the action takes place.  There you can hook up with other players, make enemies, and fight over power and resources.

As you grow your empire you can join or create alliances and fight for relics.  Relics are special universe artifacts that when in an alliance’s possession will provide all alliance members with rare resources.  Relic wars become very interesting.

The most interesting part of the game is the battle system.  The chess variant game board offers very strategic gameplay whilst remaining simple to pick up.  There are about 30 combat units available, each one with its own special powers and abilities. The game provides several tournaments and ladders in addition to the typical universe.

Also, if you register now the developers are offering players the chance to participate in an “Intergalactic Tournament” with a decent 2000€ cash prize. It costs 2€ to enter but if you think you can win, well, small price to pay!
